BT army and I am going to be using 7 assault terminators with a chaplin in my land raider crusader.I was wondering how many of the terminators I should give lightning claws and how many i should give thunder hammers/storm shields.

I was thinking 5 lightning claws and 2 thunder hammers but tell me what you think.

I ran a 10 men Assault Terminator unit in the last two RTTs I participated, and I gave them TH/SS. That's the best you can take. They took out Carnifexes, Hive Tyrants, Avatars, and Wraithlords.

I did see that but He is asking which is better, i want to know what i should give my 7 man squad in the crusader with the chaplin.

wuestenfux, obviously you have been playing in tournaments, so you havent thought of using LC against the increasing ork horde armys??i havent played in any big tournaments, (i want to though!!!) but from what ive heard orks are pretty prevelant right now in tourny lists... you know better than me so thanks for the help.

In the next to last RTT, I faced an Ork army in the final.
The battle report can be found here at Dakka.
It was a KP mission and I placed the Assault Termies in front.
They got charged by (almost) 20 Stormboyz and whatnot.
They did a great job until they died against Nobz in mega armor.
I managed that the 10 normal Termies counter-striked after they were charged.
That helped them to get alive and won me the battle.

The stormshield would help against the inevitable klaw attacks from orks. It would also help against TMC's and Greater Daemons. Or Slaanesh marines w/ power weapons. And Daemon Princes. And Wraithlords. And any ap2/ 1 shooting.


You know what? Just take the thunder hammer/stormshield Termies. Leave the lightning claw termies with I5 to chaos.

I fully second this.

With BTs, take LCs. You can match it with Furious Charge for some serious damage. They also only use the 4++ storm shield too.

Guys...he is running BT, please stop giving him advice on using 3++ storm shields. His do not help against shooting at all, and they are only 1 better invul in CC than his normal invul save. BT TH/SS Termies are nowhere near the equivlent of their vanilla counterparts.

Your best bet is 5 LCs + 2 TH/SS. With furious charge your LC termies will be far better than TH/SS. You will need some THs, though, just to deal with tough things. You can always go for 4/3 instead of 5/2, but for BTs with Furious chrage, LCs are way better...S5 I5 LCs are nasty..especially when they reroll to hit!

Yup thats right.

For Black Templars I suggest 2 things.

1) Play Counts as Nilla Marines
2) If you MUST use the Black Templar Codex, go for 5/2 or 4/3 LC/TH+SS. You will need a couple of TH for nasty stuff and four I5 Rerolling Hits and Wounds attacks each is just nasty
