great to hear the feedback. the free hand on the vehicles was actually very easy to do (use of permanent marker and painting decals/transfers). Im happy with the way they turned out. Im now painting a fantasy lizardmen army, and have learned a lot from painting this army. More pics to come, thanks all!

Yea those are all really nicely painted. My only problem is you should drill the gun barrels. Other than that youve got a really nice army there!

You have some crazy freehand skills, I'm impressed!
You should do something about the pure white though, maybe a watered down grey in the recesses to add some contrast.

Yeh, on the figures I used like a space wolf grey on the edges of the white, etc. for some shading effect (ex. around the digits of the fingers on the powerfist...). This doesn't show up on the pictures well. I did not however do anything of such on the vehicles.

All I did on the vehicles was stencil out a design in pencil, and used a micro permanent marker to outline the edges. The rest is paint by numbers. As for the ultra marines logos (which I cant freehand worth crap) i used a decal, then simply painted over it with white or blue... It took a rather short period of time to do. Again, if you need any painting inspiration check out jawaballs blood angels, all this was taken from him, except his work is much better.

I love your army. (I play Ultramarines also) I exspecialy love the freehand symbols on the tanks. I wish I could free hand that good.

Glad you liked it. Its actually VERY easy to do.

Key is to do the following:
Draw in an outline what you want with pencil. After its in a good state, go over the pencil with a thin permanent marker. Then its basically paint by number, paint within the lines. The power fist one the Rhino door is basically a trace of a power fists, then I used black marker and painted within the lines.

My biggest cheat is painting OVER decals/transfers for ultramarine symbols. I cant freehand those things...

SOOO, im in the process of tryign to trade away the SM army in the pictures above for an unpainted Ork army. Anyone interested?
