Hey all,

I'm pretty new to this site, but I've heard it is the best site to get critiques on paint schemes, and so I'd like to submit mine to the mercy of anyone willing to help me.

I am decently new to Warhammer 40k, and I just bought a pretty-good sized Tau Army, and I've started to paint them...however, I have some questions regarding the Tau in specific:

1. What color should I paint the optical receptors on their helmets?

2. Is the main Tau symbol mandatory on all Tau units? If so, where should i paint it on?

I've just completed a Crisis Battlesuit, and have attached the pics.

Please comment and give suggestions!

Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I must admit that I don't know the answers to the specific questions that you have asked, since I don't play tau. However, I thought I might make some general comments on your model which might help.
Firstly, unfortunately the quality of your photos make it quite tricky to see the details on your model.
Secondly, you have chosen quite a dark palette, which is fine, although some contrasting colours can really help to make the model more interesting. Try picking out certain details.
Thirdly, some highlights and shading would really help to emphasise the detail of the model.
This is a good forum and there are some supremely knowledgeable people on here, so I hope you find the answers to your questions!

The optical receptors should probably be blue, but it's up to you. If you think green works then why the hell not.

The tau symbol I believe is the symbol of the fire caste, It's not absolutely necessary but again if you want to then go for it.

My biggest recommendation is definitely take some better pictures so we can see better, and maybe thin your paints a bit. It may take more layers to get the color to show, but it's worth the little extra time.

and Welcome to dakka

You can do whatever you want for the optical receptors. Blue is probably the most common.

I like your paint scheme, but I think you need to add more colors into it. My scheme is almost exactly like your except I added brown into it.

Ok, thank you, I'll be sure to get some better pics.

By thinning the paint, do you mean adding water? that's what I've been doing...

Welcome!
The colours are nice but you should mix a brighter, contrasting colour in your painting scheme (like white )
For the optical sensors you should pick red or green ( choose the lightest variations of them)
The Tau symbol isn't mandatory and you may use another sept symbol

I think your on the right track. But deffinetly you need some contrast in there. It might be the pictures but your suit does look a bit dark and that makes it a tad bland. Maybe even something as simple as a bright red in there. Or white. Its basically just something to break up the 2 main colors (which are dark)
Nice job so far tho. And good luck

Yeah, I'm working on a Shas'o of my own right now, along with my Hammerhead, I'll post those as soon as they are done.

Somewhere in the unknown universe.

Good scheme, but you could maybe add some blue for contrast.

Congratulations, your dismissive and conclusory commentary has provided nothing to this discussion or the wider community on whose behalf you arrogantly presume to speak nor does it engage in any meaningful way the remark it lamely targets. But you did manage to gain experience points toward your next level of internet tough guy.
