Long story short, I was browsing through my FLGS and came a across an interesting model, The Empire Engineer on Mechanical Steed. My first thought when I saw this was a really neat Rough Rider, so i bought it, used some leftover bits and hopefully have a great model for which to base the rest of my squad off of.

Really Like to hear what you guys think of seeing a unit of these guys on the table!

Hmm yes I know how expensive it can get.... Prehaps I'll just use him as a veteran sergeant, or "Counts as" that new IG special character Rough Rider

Probably a few light washes, just to get more of the small metal bits to show up.

And I should probably do some minor touch ups on the face to (pun not intended) "flesh" him out.

Hmm yes i guess I've got to give credit, altough to be fair I had no idea of these threads were even out there...

I plan on painting the face as soon as I can learn how to paint eyes reliably, its pretty hit and miss right now, any good threads or Tutorials on it?

Not that it matters who posted it first but... in your link is an undead horse lol.

Painting eyes there are a few ways, the way most people like seem to be this one:

a) paint on black on the eye ridge crevices , use fine brush or a pin to dot on the white paints on both ends of the black line.

b) paint a white line within the black line , and clean up the rest with dark shades and blend into the normal face color.

( im bad at explaning maybe i can make a pic for it )

I'm glad to see that you recognise the importance of the eyes on a model, they are the focal point of the face, and so the whole model really. Zoom in on the eyes on this space wolf scout, if you think that they're any good I'd be more than happy give you some tips.

That looks pretty good man! Like I said in tha tother post I always hated the rough riders, they looked weird. BUT that one looks the part to me!

Yea... i always though horses really didn't have a great place in 40k, but the little "death riders" bit in the guard codex (theres one mention in doctrines) and i thought now THATS 40k!

i do have one comment regarding eye detail,
watch how big you paint the eyes, many people paint over the eyelids as the eyeballs and it makes the mini look like they have eyes that are disproportioned to the rest of the head. if you look closely at some of the golden-demon quality work like this

you can see that the lower eyelid on this model is larger than the visible eyeball itself
