Ok dakka, I am planning on getting some of the forgeworld nob bikers for my KoS army. I would just convert them from normal bikes but I use them already and figured ide be nice to my opponents and use the forgeworld models and the forgeworld biker boss. I don't have any of the models yet and have no experience with forgeworld models so I have a few question before I order them.
1) How customizable are they? What I mean do they come with extra arms/heads or something that I can show there wepons or will I have to kit bash for the big choppas and PK's? (I have no problem with Kitbashing, I just need to know if i'll have to buy another nob box set for the melee wep or not)
1a) side note, anyone got a picture of a biker with a waagh! banner or bp? I'm looking for inspiration
2) Do they come on spurs (right word?) if so is it better to paint them on them since forgeworld models are much more detailed that the GW ones.
3) Is there any special preping that I should do for the models, or can i start priming them right away?
Thanks

Forge World models are made from resin, rather than plastic, so Citadel paints adhere to them differently, or something to that effect.
There's definitely something you need to prep them with, I'm just not sure what it is.

You'll need a nob set if you really want to customize them further (powerclaws, etc.)

If you're going to paint FW models, here's the rundown:
Clean the models and any plastic components you'll be combining with them, thoroughly. Use dish soap and cool water.
You'll want to use Cyanoacrylic Glue(superglue. Not the cheap krazyglue stuff. The 10 seconds to dry stuff you use for metal models). Alternatively, you can use two-part epoxy glue for a better hold on bigger resin models.
You'll also want a different kind of primer. The normal GW stuff just doesn't stick to it just right, and I have no clue why. I use Armory Black Primer for resin stuff. It works pretty well. I'm sure others can suggest different kinds of spray primers, but that's personally what I use.
Also, thoroughly *check the models* before you start cleaning/assembling. There may be parts that have to be sanded down to fit, or pinned+puttied over. If any parts break while you're assembling them?
Call FW up during business hours and explain what happened. They'll usually replace it for free if the stuff is in stock.

1) generally what you see is what you get. There aren't really any extras that come with what is shown on their website. Make sure you read the description before you purchase it.
2) Most of the bits/parts don't come attached to a sprue (thats the word you were looking for). I would probably not assemble it all at once before painting. Dry fit everything and pin/gap fill before priming. This will make it easier to get all the details too.
3) The mold lines should be easier to see. You will want to be careful with the resin. Resin dust is pretty harmful. Get a dust mask. I only work with my FW stuff outside. Makes the clean up for me easier and I end up with less resin dust to deal with. Once you get everything cleaned (mold lines) you will want to wash it in some warm (not hot) soapy water. Use a soft brush to scrub at the models. You don't want to damage the model. This is to get all of the mold release agent off the part. If you don't get it all, the primer will have a difficult time sticking to the parts.
Hope that helps.

So like a soft bristled tooth brush? Or would that cause some damage to the model. It doesnt seem to damage the modles when I use it to strip of paint.

Toothbrush + dishwashing soap will do fine. Just use water that's hot enough for you to tolerate putting your hands in.

Armory White works just fine. I just primed up my Confrontation Dragon Titan and it worked very well.

I bought some the other day, and here's a pic of all the Forgeworld parts. You also get a Biker sprue. I'd say you could use the bits here to customise several bikes. You get 3 complete Nob Biker models.
