This Leman Russ of the 1st Naval Rifles (Armor) was inspired by a picture of a Patton tank in Vietnam covered in random junk, ice coolers, beach chairs, fishing poles and some kind of awning over the turret and the driver is Oddball from Kelly's Heroes. I took the head from an Empire cannon cocker to make him.
I'm still thinking of doing some touch up work to the tank but overall I think it came out well.

Cool idea. The picture is kind of small though, can't really see the details of the conversion.

The Imperial Infantryman's Uplifting Primer, on the other hand, is very visible. Ahhh, I love that book.

Sorry about that, I hit submit by accident. That top shot is of the whole unit so far. If anyone can tell me how to lengthen the barrel of the Russ it would be appreciated. To quote Oddball, "Our tank's got like a 76mm and like everyone else has a bigger gun than us, so like we stick this attachment on the end and they think like, I don't know, it's a 90mm."

Ha ha! That was the first thing that came to my mind- where's the pipe?

You need some paint rounds, too. "We make our own ammunition- it's filled with paint. When we fire it, it makes...pretty pictures! Scares the hell out of people!"

You also need to mod the searchlight to make it look more like a loudspeaker. =]

Bernard, float over here so I can punch you.

I'm planning on using some green stuff to make a beat up looking loudspeaker a little later. I bought an Immolater today and was going to weather the laudhailer to use on Oddball's Tank but decided it wouldn't look right.

I really like the blue scheme, all of the stowed items, and Oddball.

I didn't know TIIUP came in green. Mine has a black cover. I have to agree with DebonairToast. You can really tell who loves the IG by whether or not they have a copy of The Primer. It's funny as hell.

Thanks! It's actually much darker blue than the pic shows, and I drybushed boltgun metal over the fenders but it doesn't show up very well in the photos. I'm also working on a 'crew' for Oddball's Tank. So far I have two Catachans and an Imperial wearing a beret and out of regs vest. They haven't been put together yet.

The book is a sister to the primer- the Imperial Munitorum Manual, my copy of the Primer should be showing up later this week. The dogtag they where giving out at the Battle Bunker last weekend. Looks like I'm 1007-008/M3 now. (Just like everyone else)

An IMM? Guess I need to pay more attention to The Black Library.

I also need to paint up some gear to put on my tanks and APCs.

I always thought the FW Obadiah Schfeer kit was Oddball:

Not nearly enough junk on there. Don't forget the speaker and extra "gun tube"! Nice tank though just WAY too neat.

I hope the tank is displayed with an awning around the tracks and some kind of hippie commune getting settled in

For all your bravado, if the US Army decided to invade, Wisconsin is it?, in force supported by a heavy bombing campaign for the month before, weeks of shelling from battleships on Lake Superior, and a full tank thrust (crushing the cows beneath the treads), I don't think that your .22 is going to make much of a difference really... As to lengthening the barrel of a LR.

You need some tubing. 8mm from memory (what I used).

What I did:
Cut gun at mantlet (base of gun). Cut off the fume extractor and muzzle brake. Fit tubing into socket left at mantlet. Slide fume extractor over it. Fit muzzle brake back on end of tube. I used a 3 1/2" length of tube.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

I've got the longer barrel for this thing, (off a Death Krops Vanquisher) just not the time to paint it and attach it to the barrel plug (to hold it in place)

Was thinking about how hypothetically how Oddball & his Sherman, as described in the movie, would translate to 40k in gameplay (no, I would never attempt to game him this way excet maybe in a very bizarre kill team mission). This is what I came up with for rules: (tongue planted firmly in cheek)

Modified Engine
"It's the fastest tank forward or backward so we can get out of trouble as quickly as we get in it."
At the beginning of each of your turns roll a die. On a 5 or 6 Oddball can move 9". On a 1 the engine fails completely leaving them stuck in place until next turn.

So Many Good Vibes Maybe We Can't Lose
Once a game you may reroll any one die roll. If it's worst than the last take your pick, it's all groovy man.

"I don't know, like maybe it's a 90mm"
At the beginning of your turn declare whether the real cannon is in use or the over-sized, over-compensating fake one. The fake one can't shoot to kill but it can confuse the crap out of whatever it hits. All nearby enemy footsloggers within 6" of Oddball (and if he hits, 6" around that too) must take a morale test to see if they back away, y'know because maybe it's a (Trojan) Vanquisher.

I've got the 90mm! Actually it's a ryza vanquisher cannon, chopped off at the base & glued to a shell from the Shadowsword kit. The shell fits perfectly in the Russ barrel so it holds the 'cannon' in place perfectly. In this configuration the cannon is now longer than a vanquisher. (Too bad it doesn't do anything but shoot paint). Still working on the megaphone.
