I'm not a big fan of the imperial guard sniper models GW makes and I wanted a sniper in ghillie suite not a only cloak so I was thinking of making some my self...

I used a imperial guard model, some plasticard tubing to make the sniper. The ghillie suite is made of gauze bandage (I think its called in english...) that is simply cut in in to thin strips and then glued on using regular PVA glue.

basecoated in chaos black and tayama olive drab...

Im pretty pleased whit the result and thinking about making four more and use them as count as ratlingsnipers

Awesome concept, execution needs refining, gauze looks kinda like spaghetti in some areas. But on the table they'll look great! Pull it back a bit and would look good for Vets as well with some custom weapons.

The simplicity of it is spectacular... great work. Gauze, really... is it strong enough to adhere and all ? I think I'll try doing that as well... (hey saves on the cost of buying snipers). Hmmm wonder what other material would be good for making those ghillie suites ? maybe thin strips of cut cloth (painted) ? but I do think you should add some more textures or colours into the suit... ie: folow the same principles as camo. use some different colour dry brushing etc...

Great Work

with PVA glue the gauze adhere really well to the model... I spray painted it with one coat of chaos black and one coat of tayama olive drab which gave it kind of a hard plastic surface when it dried.

well it´s only basecoated so far... I'm going to fix some details on the weapons, dry brush the suite (thanks for the pictures!) and fix the bases. so they are far from done

I am thinking of checking my local Hobby shop for an easier way to do this. Peeling the Gauze would take too long.

update time!

The light wasn't god when I took the photos so the brown and darker green paints on the ghillie suite isn't that clear.
I am unsure about the flesh paint on the hands and face... thinking about some camouflage paint on these areas, but the model looked almost to green when I tried that... now it brings a bit of contrast to the model. what do you think?

there was no need to peel the gauze I used, it just fell apart. But I guess that depends on what kind of gauze you use

Looks really good. I'll steal this idea for my spacemarine scouts.

Keep the hands in skin colour. Even try adding some more details in brighter colours, belt buckles, extra magazines etc. It will give a nice contrast to the sneaky camouflage.

First off let me say that these look a-MAZ-ing! Totally stealing your idea (I'll give ya credit as "this guy on Dakka who showed me this badass idea").

Now then, to the quote! Snipers want NO contrast what-so-ever! So don't worry about them looking too green if you paint up the fleshy areas. IMO that would just add to the effect. Probably too late since you already painted em up, but that's not to say you can't add some tiger stripe camo paint on the faces and such...

If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

Personally i would not paint the hands flesh colored as that more then likely what gets the sniper killed, bare flesh is like a blinking light when surrounded by vegetation.

Nice!

I've done the same myself for a bunch of snipers, but unfortunetly I don't have any pics.
I really think you should try and darken the flesh areas, like the sniper has rubbed soot/camo paint on his hands and face.

And I can recommend dried oregano for even more texture
