Subject: Blackmoor's Adepticon reports. Gladiator Game #2 Vs Toledo Mike
|

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.
|
Game #2
I get to my next table and I see my next opponent…the famous Mike M. from Toledo! I have wanted to play Mike for a long time, and we have been just missing each other at major tournaments for a long time. Now is my chance to shine! Then I remembered what a crappy army I brought and I got sad. Darn!
Toledo Mike’s army (I did not get his army list, so this is from memory)
[HQ]
Sorcerer Bike, MoS, Lash of Submission
Scabeiathrax
Troops
10 Chaos Space Marines
Rhino
10 Chaos Space Marines
Rhino
8 Berserkers
Rhino
8 Noise Marines
Fast Attack
2 Hell Talons
Heavy Support
Land Raider
Deployment: 24” in to the shortest table edge.
Special Rules: Infiltrate, Deep Strike, Reserves, Outflank, Random Game Length, Warp Flux.
Warp Flux-Each player at the beginning of their own movement phase, may select one friendly non-vehicle unit anywhere on the table using the Deep Strike rules. If the 2d6 result is a doubles, the unit is removed from play and counts as destroyed. No method of preventing deviation will work.
Primary Objective: (Seize Ground) As per the 40k rulebook but use 5 objectives. Win=20, Draw=10, Loss=0
Secondary Objective: The player with the most units of any type, in the in enemy deployment zone wins this objective. ICs or units that “cannot claim objectives” do not count for this. Win=15, Draw=7, Loss=0
Tertiary Objective: Kill the most expensive enemy unit. Win=10, Loss=0
Tactical Bonuses:
+2 There are no friendly models in your deployment zone at the end of the game.
+1 You redeployed (successfully or not) at least one unit using the Warp Flux rule.
Strategy: Well, I guess I have to sit back and out shoot him. He does not have much in the way of anti-tank. What I do have to be careful of is that demon. That thing is unkillable. He has a toughness of 9 and 10 wounds with a 4+ inv save. So my mission is to stay far, far away from him.
Objectives
View of the table.
Deployment
He wins the dice roll to go first and we set up across from each other.
Turn #1
Chaos SM Turn #1
He rushes forward and pops smoke.
(No picture)
Thousand Sons Turn #1
I take some shots at his rhinos and don't do much to them. My defiler begins work on the Noise Marines.
Turn #2
Chaos SM Turn #2
He moves closer. He has his 2 Hell Talons come on. He does not have many targets, so the first Hell Talon drops 8 bombs on my terminators and does 27 wounds, and I make all of my saves. The second Hell Talon drops all of it's bombs and does 33 wounds and I fail 3 saves. Mike was not to happy with doing 60 wounds and killing 3 terminators.
Thousand Sons Turn #2
I move forward a bit. I kill his Land Raider, and destroy the rhino on the bottom, and immoblize the rhino on the top.
Turn #3
Chaos SM Turn #3
Showing no fear, he advances into the face of death!!!
Thousand Sons Turn #3
My dreadnought has a good shot at the CSM squad at the bottom of the table if it can move 6" up to shoots it's plasma cannon, but it goes nuts, and charges at them...grrrr. Good thing my oblits on the bottom have LOS to a couple guys hanging over the rhino and I put a couple of plasma cannon shots at them thinning them down a bit. I lash his berserkers closer. I get my Thousand Sons out of the Land Raider and shoot them, and then my Demon Prince moves in for the kill!
Turn #4
Chaos SM Turn #4
His monstrosity arrives and goes after the Thousand Sons squad that just got out of the Land Raider killing them. The CSM squad that got out of the rhino attacks my Demon Prince
Thousand Sons Turn #4
I throw my sorcerer into the big fight, and I begin operation "Run for your lives!"
Turn #5
Chaos SM Turn #5
The fight is not going well for him, so he has his Demon go after my Demon Prince (big bully!).
(No Picture)
Thousand Sons Turn #5
Well, it is getting late in the game, so it is time to make my move. I deep strike my last Thousand Sons squad that was hiding way back at the board edge to the objectives on the lower left, and I rapid-fire his noise marines, killing all but one. Also if you are wondering why my vehicles are all facing the top of the board, it is because he has those hell talons buzzing around. I never took a shot at that demon the whole game.
Turn #6
Chaos SM Turn #6
No good deed goes unpunished, and he deepstrikes his last noise marine to the objective in the building in the upper right. His demon comes charging accross the board, and kills a lot of Thousand Sons marines, but do to a 4+ inv save, and being fearless, we hold.
Thousand Sons Turn #6
At first I thought my Thousand Sons squad was locked in combat with the demon, so I deep struck my oblits to his table edge and gave myself the secondary objective. But I was then told that you never get locked into assault with a gargantuan creature, and I was free to leave combat. So with that stupid noise marine out of LOS and within 3" of the objective, I focused on killing it. I took my TS squad and Deep struck over to it. I ended up scattering, and killing it, but then the game ended and I was off of the objective.
So we had a draw all the way down. He only had his demon left by the end of the game. If the game ended on turn #5, or gone on to turn #7 I would have gotten the primary, but on turn #6 it was a draw. The Toledo crew managed to just barely get a tie again.
Primary Objective: Draw
Seconday Ojective: Draw
Terciary Ojective: Draw
+1 bonus point to the both of us for re-deploying using the Warp Flux

I'm confused. In your army list, you have a Lash Prince and a Warptime sorcerer. Yet above, you say his CSM's attacked your Warptime Prince. Did you mean your sorcerer, or did you not really have a lash prince?
After reading your other reports, I'm thinking you meant to say 'Warptime Sorcerer'. Do you have closeup pics of your army?

You are right. It was a long weekend and I had the lash for the Gladiator, and every other event I had Warptime. I will edit the post.

The funny thing is that I was using my Demon Prince with only strength 5 the whole weekend (I have not used the new chaos codex that much). I did not find out my mistake until halfway though the championships that he had strength 6.
Sazzlefrats wrote:Did yuo have any issues with your dreadnought or his or whomever had the dreadnought going in to a fire frenzy? How'd you resolve that if that happened?
I only used the dreadnought for the Gladiator and he only had the urge to charge people, and not shoot my own troops. So I guess I was some-what lucky. And if he did want to shoot me, he could not do too much damage to my vehicles with a plasma cannon.

I find this rather disturbing.
Not so much that you didn't know your stuff, but that no one you played against pointed out the mistake. I mean, that's kinda BS. In this report, you're not only playing against someone who is also using the Chaos codex, but you're playing against someone who is also running a deamon prince in his other list. And then you played against Chaos in round 4 of this event, and twice on Saturday too.
Do you guys not talk about your rolls? I know when I play, I try to always state what I need before I roll. Like, "My guy is Strength 6, so I need 2's to wound". No one pointed out that you were taking away the wrong dice?
I believe it was Napoleon who said, "Never interrupt your opponent when he is making a mistake." But, that's a tactics thing. If my opponent was picking up their 2's, I'd certainly point that out. It seems like the epitome of poor sportsmanship to allow your opponent to make a basic stats mistake in your favor.
Obviously, I didn't watch your games and I don't know if you rolled any 2's, or if your opponents never had the opportunity to correct this mistake, so I'm not calling anyone out on this, I'm just really surprised that with the number of chaos opponents that you played, you didn't find out the mistake until mid-Sunday.

Hey Allan,
Thanks for the game. Since I was "lucky", why don't we have a friendly outside game against each other? We can coordinate at the next tournament that we are at together. That's right: guantlet down.
I just wished that Papa Nurgle came out before turn 4. Oh yeah, how lucky was that?
And how many saves did your termies make? oh yeah, 59 out of 63!
Because I know you don't ever backdown from a fight, I look forward to the game. Maybe this time you won't get so lucky.

I say we have a Battle of the Titans II - "Recurring Nightmare". In part I, the Chicago beotches were smacked down and now it seems like some of the Dakka Detachment One team needs big beatins.
To - Allen and the rest of DDO, Codex Toledo throws down the gauntlet. John, Brad, Mike and I will take on your team in a round robin match (that is unless you want to concede based on your glorious defeats in the team tournament). During the last Battle of the Titans, we only made it through three rounds due the Chicagoites bowing out. Let's see if you can truly handle that kind of power.
Since the GTs are not happening and you can now travel to far off exotic places. How about an invite for your team to visit my place for a weekend? Free lodging, BBQ, tons of gaming space and a whole lot of fun. We have it all.

My name is John, member of Recurring Nightmare.
I here by approve of the Battle of the Titans II.
I look foreword to the round robin, no holds bar, duel to the death, throw down of the century! Unfortunately I was not around for the first Battle of the Titans, I'll have to throw down double hard to make up for that!

That is the problem with the gigantic demons. He costs so much, that you are fighting a 1500 point army vs. a 2250 point army for several turns before big daddy makes his appearance. When he shows up he can only kill one unit a turn, and with all of my 4+ saves, he should not even do that.
My saves with the termies were not important, because they were a non-factor in the game. You could have killed them all and the result would have been the same.
I might make it out to the Big Waaagh this year, but I am not certain. If we do, I will just bring my anti-lash spray and you will be rendered impotent.

I am game, (I would not mind escaping 115 degree heat) and I think Cent99 is too, but you would be hard pressed to get the Californians out to Toledo.

My God these people have huge egos. In that first 'battle' it was all about Hank and Greg running their mouths. I was dragged in after not playing 40k for a year and thought I needed to bring a painted army. My only painted army was necrons for Christs sake. You guys showed up with half painted stuff and thought it was gladiator city. That was fine, but Hank never told me that!!!!
Your Toledo Chaos armies are utterly predictable and easily defeatable (channeling my inner
Johnnie Cochran). All anyone has to do is show up to beat Lash and 9 Oblits. In fact I don't think you could play anything else that's how bad you rely on it. Oh you'll cry tactics, but all your tactics revolve around is deploying a Land raider in front of the Oblits/DP's to screen them. Oh boy that's some damn good tactics.
I think the Ego of a few Ohio boys have taken on epic proportions when in reality all they've done is use their job vacation time travelling around to every tournament so they garner a bunch of circuit points for showing up with 9 Obliterators.

Says the guy who lost...
So honestly, where are these 9 oblits? I'm looking all over the Allen vs Mike battle report, you know the Gladiator one, which is all about the sickest most out of control armies that exist, you seem to think this 9 oblit army is it. No where do I see these fabled nine oblits your hyping about. Actually I specifically notice Mike brought NO oblits. Hmmm... lets look over at Blackmoor's second battle report with Greg (feel free to come along with me http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/236438.page). Man this is the invitational, where its the best players in the US, with the strongest armies. It appears ANOTHER Toledo guy... that didn't bring 9 oblits. I see he brought 6 but, not your 9 you keep talking about.
So where is this 9 oblit army "we" always use? Cause its seems to me it exists only in your imagination. Where is in reality maybe we don't bring that army cause its not as tough as you seem to think it is. Maybe its cause there are sicker armies out that that you just can't even begin to imagine. Maybe what you think is sick and broken we on the other hand have already moved passed to different armies that we believe are better.
Or maybe its the fact that Mike and Greg only own and have painted 6 oblits each. The same painted ones that take to all the circuit events. Seems to be off your count by a little.
So where are the 9 oblits?

Perhaps something to consider for next year's invitational is a gentleman's agreement among the invitees to not bring the top archetypal armies of the day. It might make for a much more enjoyable event, certainly with more variety, and really, if you're playing in the invitational, are you really trying to prove anything?

You guys from Dakkadakka should feel lucky that the enforcer wasnt there. As far as Im concerned, everyone that played against reacurring nightmare got lucky that they didnt have one of the toughest 40k players in the country there to make you guys really complain about bad dice and luck. Anytime you make 59 of 64 armor saves on termi's and then have papa arrive on turn 4 and then complain. Give me a break, you all dont know whats up, think you do. Scottietohottie OUT!!!!!!!!!!

The "Enforcer" could not roll any better then John did in the team tournament. His dice were on fire. They were rolling so high, that it even hurt him a bit when he took 2 Perils of the Warps from rolling a 12 twice. Of course he made his 5+ inv. save even though he had to re-roll it. It was quite impressive.
