So, if i'm reading this right, for a fairly small point cost an entire squad, that can be as big as 50 guys, gets feel no pain? Is this right? This is utterly slowed. Now imperial guard have a better save than space marines. What the hell is this?

No. Medics can only go in command squads, which can't merge. Five men plus ICs and advisors, if any. It's also pretty expensive, costing more than a lascannon or heavy flamer.

But you did read the part about Feel No Pain right. That is what it does. I don't see how you get better save than space marines from that, though.

A 5+ save and feel no pain is better than a 3+ save.

Unless you are being hit by the huge amount of S6 weaponry there is nowadays. Or a Battlecannon.

1/3 (number saved by armor) + 2/3 x 1/2 (number not saved by armor but saved by feel no pain) = 2/3, same as a 3+ save, except that the guardsman's save is degraded by S6 or Ap5 weapons.

And as said, medics are only found in Command Squads (Both the CCS and PCS) which cannot merge with anything

No.
It's better vs AP3 weapons but worse against AP4 and AP5 weapons and any high strength hits (double toughness).

AP3 weapons are not more common than AP4 and AP5 weapons or weapons with S6+.

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"...

Okay, i was a bit annoyed at hearing about this so i was posting without fully running the numbers. Yes its not as good as power armor versus shooting. But it is in CC, which is just dumb. Guard are supposed to be weak and vulnerable to CC, but with the large amounts of FNP and rules like stubborn available in the new codex it doesn't really seem like they are as vulnerable as they should be. Also what's with the massive amounts of special rules being heaped on guard units? It turns out that random criminals are more berserk than Khorne Berserkers. How does that make any sense?

You forget that anything that is really a dedicated assault unit will have some way of negating FNP (via rending, PW or being S6+) which all negates FNP

Guard aren't "supposed to be" weak and vulnerable to CC. They usually aren't terribly good at it, but that isn't the same as automatically losing every time an assault happens.

A platoon command squad with a medic and no other upgrades costs 60 points for five men who are no harder to kill than sisters of battle.

Actually easier because they wont get either save against assault cannons, and will only get their armour against Multilasers etc etc. At least SoB get their 3+ Armour against them.

Nope.

I think you should write an angry letter to GW telling them that you're quitting the game forever in disgust over rules that you've not read, don't understand and don't like. Don't foget to call them utterly slowed, and its important to whine about marines, that will make sure they listen to you very carefully.

Actually, it's a fair response. Instead of asking a question "Hey, I heard this thing about medipacks, is it true?" You made a statement, and then started throwing around some pretty heavy insults based on an assumption you made that was wrong on multiple levels. (You can't give a blog platoon a medipack, a medipack on flak is not better than power armor, and even if it was, Space Marines have access to the same piece of wargear, so complaining about it is like complaining that both armies have access to power swords.)

I don't think we're a bunch of raving GW fanboys here. If anything, we're the opposite. But harshly flaming anyone for such spurious reasons is going to get someone to stand up for the person you're insulting.

It's a good life lesson.

Closing the original post with "What the hell is this?" really set the tone of the whole thread.
