Well, I've finally started painting up my new army of Orks. These 2 Tankbustaz are my 'test subjects'. I'm planning on doing an Evil Sunz army, but I'm going for realism. I want the Orks to look real, look dirty and unclean. I've tried to make the skin look like real green leather, but this will take me a while as there are 8 stages to the skin! The weapons and armour I'm trying to add realism to by making it rusty. For the bases I want a dessert type terrain with bits of rusty stuff on them, so on the Tankbustaz, bits of tank. The 3 other Orks out the Tankbustaz box are undercoated, and I'm just about to start the skin.

Any comments are more than welcome. And for once, they won't be for sale.

looking good, I love the piece of tank track on the back of the pistol tank busta. It would be cool to add that to shoulders or shins. I had one newb question though, is the ork with the rocket stikk raise above his head considered a melee unit? It looks as if hes about to swing that rocket towards a target.

These are both out of the new Tankbustaz set. They are complete metal models. The guy is armed with a 'Tank Hammer', which in the codex is described as a rokkit on a pole to be swung directly at the tanks vunerable bits.

The skin is easy to do, but time consuming....

After a black undercoat.
1. Orc Hide Shade all over
2. Tharakka Green wash all over
3. 50/50 Orc shade / Knarloc Green
4. Knarloc Green
5. 50/50 Knarloc Green / Gretching Green
6. Gretchin Green
7. 50/50 Devlan mud / Tamiya Thiners wash all over. For Nobs, I'll won't thin it down to give a darker appearance.

Need to order some more of the greens so I can mix up complete pots of the 50/50 mixes. With this army I'm going for quality rather than speed. The more basic footsloggers in Trukk's will have more red and yellow decals on them for the Evil Sunz.

The Tank Bustas have to be one of my favorite models from the ork line so far. That and the Storm boyz.

Absolutely stunning. I love the second edition feel yet being able to mix in modern paint styles. Great work.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

They look excellent and the skin is very interesting.
If you're doing a load of Boyz at once, it'll probably not be so tedious to do the skin, especially if you have it pre-mixed.

For Orks, this stunning work.

I appreciate your dedication to detail, but will you hold up around figure #123?

Good Luck

We are definately going for quality rather than speed, even so this is an Evil Sunz mob. All the bases will be detailed, all the Nobz going on larger bases, and I've made about 20 various Mushrooms to stick on the bases.

I've bought about 50% of the army now, but expect it to take 1-2 years to complete.

Your models look wonderful. I'm currently painting orks but mine are about a third as good as yours. I'm leaving the HQ and elites until after I've completed all the boyz as I need the practise. Lol.
