I love your models and the conversions are really on point.

My only issue, if you can call it that, is the top knot on Lorimar. It is behaving in a different way to the rest of the squad you have pictured him with. They are all straight back and his seems to be going to the left.

It's just a small thing but I think he would fit with his squad more if they all were streaming the same way.

Other than that, spot on!

It's too bad there's not many '2-handed arms crossed over the body' arms you could use. That pose just wants for him to be doing a big double-handed backswing up from the ground (and behind him) there.

Lorimar's bodyguard looks great! That axe is vicious - which kit is it from? Also, is it just me, or is the bodyguard using the same head piece are the 40k Lorimar himself? Perhaps they're more than just "Battle" brothers...

Cheers, guys!

@ Mail Lite: Hmm, I have to admit that the interaction between Lorimar and the Cataphractii squad wasn't really a chief concern during the building stage: I mainly tried to make each of the projects as awesome as I could, and I suppose the "different wind direction" affecting the models is very much a consequence of that approach -- it is also, however, a problem I think I can live with

@ Crystal Geyser: The axe came from one of the Dark Vengeance Chosen. As for the head, I agree that they are similar, but the head on the bodyguard is actually from the warriors of chaos (and it used to have vestigial horns, too). Then again, GW is definitely using some general facial templates again and again (especially notable with their baseline Marauder face that has been appearing on numerous chaotic plastic models), so who knows, right...?

Today's update is still very much in keeping with my recent 30k conversions: Earlier this week, I picked up an Age of Sigmar Slaughterpriest model, both on a whim and because I had this crazy idea that the model could work pretty well as a (very) lightly armoured Angron. Take a look:

As you can see, I have replaced the two handed axe with twin chainaxes (Gorefather and Gorechild, obviously). Once the stock weapon was gone, I realised that the model's original arms seemed slightly too short (mostly due to their pose), so I replaced them with Ork boy arms while I was at it. I also added a single shoulder pad, as I rather like the gadiatorial look it provides.

Even though the somewhat ridiculous horns framing the stock model's head had to go, I have left the overgrown spine in place:

I thik it could represent some unspeakable surgery performed on the Primarch by his handlers on Nuceria (or even afterwards, in order to make his implants compatible with Imperial technology).

I also shaved off/covered up all of the openly Khornate inconography, as Angron never seemed to realise the Blood God was interested in him until it was too late. The one noticeable addition to the stock model that really sells the look, however, are the Butcher's Nails, and I am pretty happy with the way they have turned out: They look like a mix of actual implants and unruly metallic dreadlocks, just the way I planned:

I have also added some spikes to the axes -- such a small thing, really, but I think it adds just the right pinch of visual interest to the weapons.

I am really in love with the face, btw: This has to be the angriest face GW has ever done -- the sublime way the facial muscles seem to be stretched across the bone in a vicious snarl has to be seen firsthand to be believed!

Most of the conversion is already in place: The holes on the model's shoulders have to be filled in and smoothed over with GS, and I am also going to add a Triumph Rope scar to Angron's torso. But all in all, I am pretty happy with the way the model looks: He seems to be - at most - thirty seconds away from striking the iconic pose from the cover of Butcher's Nails:

Of course the size of the model was a concern -- but even though the Slaughterpriest model isn't quite as massive and bulky as Forgeworld's Angron, I still think the conversion does read as a Primarch. Here's a scale comparison shot:

As always, let me know what you think!

Very nice conversion, and very original at that too!!! He looks like he is in the fighting pits hacking and butchering away an outburst of rage at some unfortunate officer. I could say you nailed all the little details to make him convincing. And I wouldn't be too concerned about the size as I've seen some pretty convincing Primarch and Emperor conversion based on terminator marines without any enlargement. One tiny little thing that bugs me is that Gorefather seems so similar in size to Gorechild (given that even in FW 's Angron they are quite different). Perhaps you might consider using one of the regular Berzerkers' chainaxes for Gorechild? Anyway great miniature, looking up to see what's next

Cheers, mate!

You are quite right about the axes, and the first version of the model did indeed use two differently sized axes. But then I just fell in love with the visual parallelism, for lack of a better word, when two identical axes are used. At least my true scale conversion of Kharn uses the exact same Cataphractii chainaxe, though, so there is that bit of visual consistency, if only as a small in-joke

Great conversion, in all honesty I think the size is not too bad. If the marine was unarmoured he would be considerably smaller. If you imagined a full suit of armour on Angron, then he would look much bigger.

Thanks a lot, guys!

So here's another small update: I used the afternoon to sort out the greenstuff work on my Angron conversion, and the model is now basically ready for painting:

The gaping holes in the shoulders have been filled in and I have tried to sculpt a fairly believable back for him. This area will be painted to look fairly distressed, what with all the cabling feeding into his back and the crude augmentations to his spine, so I think the slightly lumpy texture of the GS could actually turn into a boon here. I also added his Triumph Rope scar -- it's described as fairly serpentine in Matthew Farrer's short story "After De'shea", but I have decided to make it slightly less complicated, so as not to mess up the very well sculpted muscles on the torso.

Once everything is nice and dry, the left shoulder might need a bit of cleanup work, but all in all, I really couldn't be any happier with the finished conversion -- I mean he just really looks like Angron to me:

That is brilliant - I think he's actually a better fit than the forge world model.
And I expect the slight size issue will be even less visible when he's painted.
Good choice on the Ork arms, by the way, they definitely fit - I only realized they were Orky after you mentioned them

Then suddenly I saw it. With only a slight churning to mark its rise to the surface, the thing slid into view above the dark waters. Vast, Polyphemus-like, and loathsome, it darted like a stupendous monster of nightmares to the monolith, about which it flung its gigantic scaly arms, the while it bowed its hideous head and gave vent to certain measured sounds. I think I went mad then.

Cheers, guys!

So, here are some more ideas regarding plastic Angron:

First up, I have started thinking about the base, and I am contemplating going full-on Forgeworld-style with it, complete with a smaller gaming base that slots into a bigger display base. As a preparation, I have made a plaster copy of that big shield carried by the Space Marine statue from the Honoured Imperium kit. On the finished base(s), it could end up looking something like this:

Now to make one thing perfectly clear, I only made a recast in the first place because I needed the pieces to actually have a stone-like texture within when I broke them apart, like this:

I kinda like the idea of the broken pieces still forming the vague shape of the shield when you slot the smaller base into the bigger one -- but this will take quite a bit of work to get right, so I may end up painting the model before actually starting to build the base.

The other thing that might be of interest to those of you thinking about using the same base model for a plastic Angron conversion is that I think it's really quite realistic to build a fully armoured Angron using the same base model. Take a look at this:

Now it took me all of thirty seconds to add a second shoulder pad and tack on a Stormcast Eternal breastplate (which is fairly similar to FW Angron's armour, design-wise), and it already looks close enough. To really get it to work would require a bit more work, of course, but it's definitely possible, even if it's not something I want to do with my own version.

The great thing about the Slaughterpriest in that regard is that the model isn't merely tall, it also has the right proportions for the job: Unlike the models you see cobbled together from smaller models, with arms and legs extended with GS, the Slaughterpriest model really looks like a race apart when placed next to a Space Marine or even a Terminator, which I think really makes it ideal for a Primarch conversion -- but then I am probably pretty biased

As always, let me know what you think!

Phew, guys, I suggest you read my previous post. I just added the breastplate to show it can be done, not because I want to add further armour. For instance, the plate doesn't fit better because a part of the Butcher's Nails is in the way -- because the model wasn't conceived with a breastplate in mind, and neither will it be getting one. I just wanted to illustrate the option, if anyone is interested in creating a fully armoured Angron based on the Slaughterpriest.
