In an effort to get myself to paint more, I've decided it's time to start on the Battlewagon. I'm going for the steampunk look for my army. With this being a sort of centerpiece model, it'll have to have plenty of steampunky goodness to showcase the theme.
First thing to go were the tires and tracks. They're cool and all, but the don't fit the idea in my head. What it needs to have is locomotive style wheels, with plenty of spokes and bars and such. Here's what I've come up with so far:
Front wheels are from Fantasy junk I've managed to come up with over the years. I added rivets to the outside of the front wheels for a bit of detail.
Back wheels are Big Gun wheels with pieces of sprue added for that Gear-y look. Got the inspiration from Komisarr Blitzrukk on Da Waaagh forum. To the left of the wheel here will be the drive pistons. They're next on the parts list.
From the front, it's kinda weedy. The Deff Rolla will fix that problem nicely, I think.
More to come!

I think Steam-punk Orks sounds like a totally neat idea! Can't wait to see how this battle wagon develops! :]
Is the blue undercoat to aid the metal painting (or is there just a blue tint on all the photos?)

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-) |

Progress is steady. It's a little more train-like now. Really happy with the progress so far. Next is the walls and then the boiler.

Awesome start, is this going to be a steampunk ork army or a steampunk IG army? (it didn't really specify, personally I think either would be pretty cool)

Here's a couple more wip shots. Nothing to crazy here, right? Well how about this! Wo-pah! It's the protruding part of the Battlewagon's steam boiler. The small round circles on the main boiler section will be gauges, as will be the small one on the box to the right. There's still a lot of details to be added. Many more pipes and levers and controls. I'm planning on having a mek sitting on the back with his grot assistant working on the boiler.

Great work so far, keep going!
p.s.: I would like to offer constructive critisism at this point, but I can't think of any.

Love the idea. Really like the pistons and boiler end. How many Grot stokers are you planning on?

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.
