Hi guys and ghouls,

I was wondering if anyone has stumbled upon an ornate looking SM main body parts (full head, torso and legs, or any combination of the above) for a Vulkan Conversion. I've been checking various bitz parts, and apart from a few of the new Sternguard models, and possibly a standard grey knight, nothing really seems to be leaping out at me.

Also, on a Salamanders note, has anyone utilised the Grey Knights incinerator to any good extent, i'm rather tempted to put it in a Sternguard unit.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I've seen some really good conversions based off of the Techmarine with Servoharness model.

Basically, use 'just' the body/head with some file/dremel work required, but it does serve as an excellent base, I think...

Ooo, great call Alpharius.

It was really the lower half at least I was looking for, and that would be a perfect start, and is the ornate look I was looking for, good job.

The masters of the chapter figs are perfect for this. I used the one holding his helmet, that hand is separate and easy to replace with his special gauntlet. His other hand nicely takes a nemesis halberd...

Captain Jack: I've seen what you've done there, and it's bang on what i was asking for. That is indeed a good model for the ornate artificers armour i'm requiring, and you've also added a force halberd in a similar fashion I was contemplating. The Lizard backpack was a nice touch too, i may just have to find some lizardman parts a blatently rip off that idea.

Grandmaster: Wow, brilliant Vulkan model, and an awesome paint job too. I was wondering whether to change the chest for my model, but you've shown it'll look grand with a good paint job alone. The halberd is spot on, and the guantlet is in a very good pose.

2 great conversions guys, they'll influence heavily on what i'll now do, good work

i agree, i have seen several GK conversions which are pretty much spot on, unless you can wait for the model (aka a longggg time)

I think with the options available to me, and the fact i'd like to personalise this force (ie not playing green Smurfs with lots of flamers and hammers), i'll definately convert a model.

It'll be so long before a model will come out, but i doubt it'll be as long as the wait until the next Dark eldar codex.

Yeah... no. Not the point of this thread.

I second the GK model, and maybe try your hand at some greenstuff to make his mantle?

Cheers for everyone giving me a date, but i'm 100% going to convert a model for this, and is a tad off topic, thanks for the research though.

FoxPheonix: The GK model (the current one in your profile, and Grandmaster's conversion) is looking like a winner. The mantle will probably require some greenstuff work, and i've seen a multitude of helpful articles (any recommendations?).

I'm liking the shape of the GK incinerator, and would fit the feel of a master crafted flame weapon it gives. I was also postulating having him hold it like the Marneus Calgar figure, held either over the fist, or below.

I'm debating whether to mount it on a pointed power fist (see the new pointed verterans Mk I sergeant http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1400008&prodId=prod1060042&rootCatGameStyle=) which would be larger and easier to mount, or just on a regular hand.

hopefully this isn't too 'necro' figured I would throw my conversion up for others to pick up some inspiration or grab some ideas.

The mini was heavily influenced by one I saw on B&C. Pickec up other odds and ends from other versions.

That looks pretty good. The only thing I see wrong, is the powerfist arm looks WAY to long.

thanks, prolly due to using a termy lightning claw. might be an optical thing too, as it looks 'fitting' in person.

This is kind of a complicated bitz list for the model, but IMO it would look sweet.

upper body of sicarius, the "aegis" armor he has is perfect for artificer armor.

the lower body of the techmarine-- as many people have mentioned its great for a sense of movement when compared to the static lower half of cato sicarius. Another thought is using the lower body of black templars character high marshal helbrecht (gotta love segmented armor)

for the head, maybe the mk V head from the assault on black reach "squiddie" or an appropriate looking iron warriors "older mk" head, again for the ornate artificer feel.

for the weapon, a grey knight halberd will do the job nicely.

and lastly for the gauntlet of the forge...well whatever your personal taste is really. I have seen it done with apothecary nartheciums having the drilly thing replaced with a flamer barrel. I have also seen the old school flamer pistol from the CC weapons sprue and dantes' "purgation pistol" used. Of course you can always use the lightning claw from the captain kit and cut the claws off--replacing them with flamer tops.

Yeah that Grey Knight looks perfect for the part... Though I I'm a bit of a converter and I would probably want to add extras to it to make it look highly prestigious. Maybe some more purity seals and medals.

I would probably add a tabbard in the front, plus Calgar comes with a sword in it's scabard, that would look nice on his hip. Also do the same thing with the back pack that Captain Jack has done.

1000pts-ish...

Check out chapterhousestudios.com, they have a lot of salamanders stuff, particularly the body of the salamanders chaplain.

I used the sicarus model and some GS work on the cloak/talbard. Ein over at B&C has a good work up on it.
