OK, so I started painting my own chapter a few weeks ago and it's been progressing nicely. I can't claim to be the best painter out there but I'm on a rapid re-learning curve after quite a few years off. After doing some research into existing chapters on Lexicanum and a few of the 40k forums, I thought brown might be a good colour as it seemed to be under-represented. I need to clear up some of the highlighting on the dreadnought for sure but C&C will be very much appreciated.

Looks like you could make use of some ink washes on the white and flesh to add some definition and shading. Also, finish the bases with a complementary colour for great results

Nuclear: Properly pronounced new-clear, not new-cue-lir. There is no 'u' between the c and l, so stop saying it because it just makes you sound like a dumbass. This includes nucleolus, and all other derivatives of the word.

I like it. Brown is an under-represented colour.
Good choice! I'd key it with lime green, for that awesome 70s look.

Lucky for you there's a good range of browns out there in the GW range, so shading will be a lot of fun.
Definately get hold of Devlan Mud and Gryphonne Sepia washes, maybe Ogryn Flesh too (although I find this very red) and get washing those models. It'll bring out all the detail in the faces, armour and recesses all over your models.

Do you have a name for the chapter?

Thanks for the advice. Washes and inks are now firmly on my list of things to buy next!

I was thinking of the Iron Bears. Essentially they would be a later (unsure which) founding chapter descended from the Iron Hands. I can then possibly use some of the GW Iron Hands bionics for conversions which might look cool - especially for turning chaplains/techmarines into Iron Fathers.

I've designed my chapter symbol based on the basic Space Wolves design and I've got some laser printer transfer sheets on the way so that I can make a nice clean job of it. I've attached an image of the basic design that I drew.

Thanks for the comments so far. I'll keep updating as the work progresses!

Very nice. If youre going with the bear theme, may I reccomend getting some space wolf bits - the wolf iconography should convert easily to bears with a little work, and you have pelts and teeth charms already.

If you want to go down that road...

I like it! As others have said, could do with washes, but love the idea-iron hands/space wolves is an interesting combo. Viking techno-wierdos! hmmmm...

I know. I'm evil.
I saw weird stuff in that place last night. Weird, strange, sick, twisted, eerie, godless, evil stuff. And I want in.

I'm digging the brown and white. Unusual to use brown, but that's a good thing. Keep up the good work. You basing it on any existing armies?

I like. Never enough brown chapters out there.

Thanks to everyone for their comments so far. I particularly like Xenith's idea of using Space Wolves for (relatively) straightforward bear conversions. Chopping and changing bits of them with the bionics from the Iron Hands tactical squad should create quite a nice looking effect.

I've just been looking at the GW range and I think that my next goal is going to be to add some bionics and some Techmarine bits to a modified Wolf Priest Ulrik figure to create a bear-themed Iron Father for my chapter.

I'll post images of my progress with the washes and with my conversions when I get round to them.

Mmm, consider the SW iron priest model as well, hes already quite animalistic with a sweet bionic arm.

As with the wolf bits, Id reckon youd just have to snub the nosed and ears to make them less pointly, then remake some greenstuff nostrils and theyll look good.

I don't know his name, but this guy based a SM army on SW and called them the wolverines or something like that. He got lots of coverage in the wd like 6 years ago. All of his chain swords were mounted on the back of their wrists and he had brown/orange combo with white. I'll try and dig up some pictures.

Edit: Shawn Kilgore with his Rockbadgers. Couldn't find any picutres, but they are pretty sweet.
