Hi all,

With the coming of the new IG book, a psyker battle squad seems the newest thing to have (that and valkyries, obviously ) . Unfortunately, the regular pykers look like their heads are about to explode, don't look like they're in the middle of a battle, and come in three hard to convert and very similar looking poses. In other words: they don't belong in my force. So, something else was in order. I had an Ash Wastes Nomads gang lying around from Necromunda, and they look quite nice: robe-like clothing, hoods, strange poses, some techy-looking stuff on their heads...

Anyway, I though they'd make decent psykers, so I gave them some hands (models come without hands; they're attached to their weapons) and some staffs. I added some "I"s to make them look inquisition-sanctioned from a plasticard I-beam, and presto, a psyker squad!

Some things still nagging me:

1) Should I fix up the tattered robes? Fixing them up makes them more 'regular', but I don't know if it'll add anything.

2) These guys would make a real nice penal squad, but then I'll only ever have one sqaud.. Ash Waste Nomads are pretty rare. I don' t mind having only one PBS, but penal squads seem like an interesting option to me so I want to experiment a bit with them.

3) They look pretty admech. This can be fixed with some fluff of course. Still, ...

4) Colour scheme. My usual black and green won't fit for them. Right now, I'm thinking cream clothing with red hoods, adding an inquisition feel to them.

I have quite a few of these guys in my Munda stuff, I am painting a good size Tallarn army. I had not thought of using these until now. May be as conscripts, as I like the Psykers they have out. I have a unit of Van Saar painted up in the desert theme, but now I must consider these guys for sure. Keep us posted.

Urban Guard, acullen626 : thanks!

Captain Vyper: if you consider getting rid of a few, drop me a PM . I've got two with a sniper rifle and one nomad with an autogun left over right now. (the overseer is not a nomad to make the difference very obvious)

Thats a great idea for converting them, I have been considering different options myself, but I had forgotten about these old Necromunda models, and they seem to fit in realy well with what I would think a PBS would look like. The only suggestion I have is that some of their staves look a bit crooked, you can correct this by drilling out their fists with your pin-vise drill and inserting thin plastic rod, sometimes I drill out the heads that I want to put at the tops of the staves so they will fit securely. Try it, it's realy easy and it also helps keep them from breaking off when you transport them.

i think i'm going to use empire flagellants for mine. they certainly look strength 2 with those tattered robes and emaciated bodies. buying 3 more blisters of psykers is too pricey $$ wise.

edit: oops, they apparently worked out at the gym alot and took steroids to boot when they switched over to plastic. they've got a heck of alot of muscles now, lol... i'll have to find some weedy arms!

gil gerard: Thanks! The staves were drilled out, but even then I suck at straight lines (or finding the centre of a bit of plastic rod)... Only one is bad irl though, the others look quite OK. I'll be fixing him his staff straight after the gs on his robes has dried; I'm fixing up the worst of the wear and tear to make them look a bit more disciplined.

Nailz94: he's one of my favourites too; the guy with the skull staff looks pretty decent as well, I'll try and post a few pics of the staff heads as soon s the light here is decent.

warboss: quite a few people seem to have used flag bodies (valhallan 42nd has a few nice ones floating around in the p&m section), but they look a bit low-tech to me. These guys have goggles, rebreathers, etc, tying them into the 41st millennium. A lot depends on the look of your army as a whole of course.

agreed. from the gaunt novels, it seems like they keep the regular sanctioned psykers in horrible conditions so the strength 2 seems warranted. i'd definitely end up adding conversion bits like aquillas and various tech to make them look a bit more similar to the official sanctioned psyker models.
