I am just starting my Salamanders list and wanted to get your opinions. I used the shoulder pads and back packs from chapter house studios and was very ipressed with the quality of the product. Check em out at www.chapterhousestudios.com. Some of there stuff has appeared in other forum topics here so this should show you there stuff is for real.
In painting this army I am looking for something that really pops off the table like my old Kroot list did. Let me know what ya think and I appreciate any feedback!!

I tend to paint very pop style hence the Pastel look. I really struggle to take pics of orange so these pics are kinda bright and the slide show shows some darker and lighter depending on the light.

Simply beautiful oranges, that is a tough color to make pop.

Looks really cool. Although the departure from the traditional look is a little strange, it's painted quite well.

I really love you digging deep in the lava to get that color. you might want to not go with purple but the standard green so that way people know you are playing them but just taking a different take on them.

The painting is pheominal! I wishI could do half as good a job as you do! As for the color scheme, I love the fact you make em look different and yet don't lose that cookin' with gas color look. The purple makes it a bit cooler color wise but I love it just the same. So what if they don't look like the Salamanders in the book. Make them your own.

Adendum: I just watched the slideshow and you're right, the flash on your camera really did make a difference. Seeing it in natural light makes the model look even better, more subdued. For everyone who has doubts, look at the slides first.

I am in no way knocking your paintjob. I like it a lot. I really do. I like the unique take on the color scheme. I also love the tan on the helmet and orange armor. The painting is very nice. My only critique is the grey shoulder. The different shades of grey aren't blended at all. It's just stepped up from dark to light. the divisions of color are far too stark and easily discernible. It's not as noticeable in lighter colors, like the tan, but in that dark, its just... too obvious.

I guess I'm just not a fan of that style of highlighting. Yes, its far faster, but I prefer a more gradual blending. Looks more natural to me.

Thats the part I hate about digital camera's. The transition is not as apparent in real life but the camera typically makes harsh lines with my style of layering. I will hit the next one with more layers on the blacks to try and fix that.

I think its more a problem with macro mode photography, rather than the paint job. In real life the shading will not be as noticeable.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

All in All I have to say this is a markedly awesome job Fishboy. I have watched Digi cams bring the layers of my highlights forever. So when are you coming by Phoenix next tiem with some of these guys?

You and you pastels though ;-p

I had to have some 2 dimensional art on my models heheh. Besides I am using this pad to differentiate my units by squad number so my opponent and I can tell who belongs to what squad. I do however love the shameless pitch Those pads turned out better than I expected em too. Just got the drop pod stuff today but I dont know when I will get to em.

So when are you coming by Phoenix next tiem with some of these guys?

As soon as I am in the state for more than 2 days in a row. I have been traveling every single week for about 5 or 6 weeks now. I will probably be moving up to PA soon as my job is now the NE guy.....
