Here's the route I decided to take with the rhino project I posted earlier. I wanted to both start a WIP thread, as the WIP thread on my sidecar provided TONS of great tips and advice, but I also wanted to get a ruling as to how the model can be used.

The second point first: I want to use the model as an Ork Trukk and not a looted Wagon (As the trukk is fast and the wagon isn't). The vehicle will clearly be open topped and by far an armored compartment. It may not even have the same drive train as the Rhino (see later on, the wheels/treads part) So I think it could be used as a Trukk. However, I'm hoping for a ruling which would stand the test of tournaments as I plan to use this vehicle in local tourneys and possibly beyond.

As for the model, I hacked off the roof and rear and using pieces from an old WHFB siege tower I've been making spikey bits for a top plank. There's a bunch of ladders I'll be draping about the vehicle to show its awesome open top.ed.ness (?) and because the vehicle will have boarding planks.

ITEM 1: The first BIG item I would like to get your advice on is whether or not to use the wheels from the siege tower kit or keep it on treads. You can see one of the oversized wooden wide wheels in the front and side pics (first side pic) but I took a second side pic to show what it would look like with just the rhino treads. I'm leaning for the wheels (and they will attach right to the side of the rhino nicely) simply becuase I built the drive train to look like it runs the wheels. Looking at the first pic (front) you'll notice a post running up the middle. That will link up to another on the upper deck you see pictured which has an older-looking wheel on it. It's actually the turn crank for the "draw bridge" but hey, it works.

There isn't any other BIG items yet I want to ask about. I plan to go around the front some more with the spikey bits as well as the back. also need to fit a big shoota on it. I have a board I'll be laying across the front window (where the rhino hatch goes) and I think I'll stick a BS out that window from over the board with a grot or boy behind it.

At any rate please, lay on the suggestions. Especially semi-official rulings on the trukk/looted waggon deal.

How about running the tread AROUND the wheels? I think that would look awesome. But nice work so far!

One last pic before I call it a night. I placed the board across the front window so you can see what I'm talking about. The wheel isn't glued down but you get the idea and there are more spikey bits around the top.

Cut off the bottom treads and put something around the wagon wheels and you have a winner!

I would say go with the wheels. Also some plasticard to make some random plates here and there and a ton of RIVETS. But I do kinda go overboard on the rivet thing myself.

Oi!! Which Butt'n makes dis ting go!?!

Wagon wheels? I am not a fan. Custom made tracks look alot better. In the discussion forum there is a topic that is along the lines of "Why does GW not hire this guy" with a link to a website, in french, with pictures of a truly orky vehicle. I recommend taking a gander, or simply a goose if you prefer.

uncanny, I just finished a looted rhino/trukk a few days ago (not to mention the base rhino was second hand and red primered). Weird coincidence, or perhaps everyone knows a blood angle player that left the game .

As far as ruling debates for the model. If it is clear you are using a rhino chasis to make a trukk, and are open to point that out to opponents, you shouldn't have a problem. I have come across the same dilemma due to playing a snakebite clan. I figure they are more likely to re-purpose an existing rhino than build something from scratch. The key is to make it less rhino, more trukk. Try to work the wooden wheels in and maybe cut back more on the rhino chassis to help with the open topped.
here's a shot of my looted trukk to give you an idea...

I have to say those first pics at the top gave me the wrong idea at how it might turn out but I really do think your final product came out very well. If you put in some extra bits like the bomb chukkas from the plastic truck kit or the wrecking ball I am sure it would be even better. Either way you did a good job

I was a blood angels player back in the day. Now I find the rhinos are best used as conversion models.

I love what you did with the trukk, cutting it back some. I will have to do that. I guess I should also pick up plasticard and PVC glue.

I see a lot of recommendations for treads but I want to get as far away from 'tank' and as close to fast trukk as possible.

I think I'll cut back the top level some, open the bottom more.

Okay, here's what I came up with.

First off again Thank you for all the wonderful advice! There were some great pointers made and I utilized a deal of em.

To start I hacked off the origional tread. also did not use the big wheeels as you can see in the pics. Instead I pulled hte tracks off a wartrakk and the wheels off a warbuggie (which I had already dissected for use in my warboss with sidecar conversion).

I wanted to keep the wood/metal mixed theme since my Ork warband is a poorer warband. That and I feel wood makes it look more ramshackle.

So here's the finished product. The paint job isn't as good as some of you dakka regulars do but it's farily good for me. The only thing missing is I plan to put a transfer of something on the front plate.

From the front - You can't really see it but there's an ork behind the board manning the BS

[Thumb - Trukfin2.jpg]
From the side you can maybe see my pathetic attempt at weathering. I'm just not very good at that.

[Thumb - Trukfin3.jpg]
From the rear where you can see a lot of the imported brazillian hardwood finish.

Looking much better,no offence, but your first set of pics reminded me of the flintstones.
I do like the "wood plank" ramshackle look your going for, but,I would add some plasticard "metal plates" & some glyphs.
Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.
