Ok, I've been painting models for a while now but I've been doing 2d art for a bit longer.
I'm 13 at the moment and I've been drawing for around 12 years.

So, cut the crap, here's my latest work: An Eldar Fire Dragon Exarch.

Cheers,

Jack.

Edit: a little disappointed at how the photos came out. For the record- the eyes look less crappy in real life.

I like it, a bit blurry though.

You might reconsider taking better pictures, and probably...

a) add some washes to create deeper and darker shadow-areas and heighten the contrast, so it sticks out more

b) highlight a little more with even brighter stuff

or

c) all of the above.

All in all it's a decent model though, I really like it

I don't want to be human! I want to see gamma rays! I want to hear X-rays! And I want to - I want to smell dark matter! Do you see the absurdity of what I am? I can't even express these things properly because I have to conceptualize complex ideas in this stupid limiting spoken language! But I know I want to reach out with something other than these prehensile paws! And feel the wind of a supernova flowing over me! And I can know much more! I can experience so much more. But I'm trapped in this absurd body!

Arrghh, that makes me angry...

I used washes and highlighted, I've just got a crap camera.

I used baal red for wash, which looks surprising good in recesses of blazing orange armour.

I used firey orange for highlights and blending, but it didn't show up well in the photo.

Cheers,

Jack.

The base is very nice, and the model looks nice - it's just that it's so hard to make out the details due to the blurr >_<

If you had better pics you'd probably get more indepth comments.

I think he looks great as is. Everyone's a critic and many will suggest you do this or do that. Leave the painting alone. It looks great. You went out of your way to create a diorama-style base. Most people don't even base their stuff... Again, the pictures make it hard to tell, but it looks like you even highlighted your gems?

Way to go, dude. Excellent model. You leave this dude alone. Any suggestions you get in this thread, listen to them, but try them on NEW models. This guy is done and he looks excellent. Leave him this way.

A side effect is that, years from now, as you progress your skills, you can look back to this model and see how much you've changed over the years.

I'm with Ghidorah. Looks great and don't go fiddling, I have messed up some decent paint work by trying to 'fix' things that were perfectly good. That looks like a very clean and well defined paint job despite the photo quality.

I know how you feel about getting good pics as it turns out my wife's mobile has a better macro mode than our dedicated camera but even her camera phone suffers if I can't take the pics in daylight.

I am guilty.

Ghidorah is right, try more extreme highlighting / shadowing on your next model, not this one!

Thanks for the great comments guys!

@Ghidorah- You sir, have just made me very happy. Hopefully you'll check out some more of my work in the future.

By the way, if anyone wants to know a great basecolour for yellow- use bronzed flesh! It was just a little experiment I tried but it worked really well! The yellow is:

Base- Bronzed Flesh
1st coat- Golden Yellow
2nd coat- Sunburst Yellow

Thanks again,

Jack.

looks great, photos are blurry thats the only complant i have, honestly dont chage your paint style, other wise your stuff will end up like all the others. strong highlights are cool but not a must not every war is fought in perfect light, more washes you dont need them because youve already have used them its your style, keep it and profect it your way after all its yours

So, I bought a new SLR camera today for £280. I'm really impressed with it and decided to take some better pictures of the model.

So, here it is!

I really like it, i would suggest maybe drybrushing that metal thing sticking out of the ground near the lava though. it would give the impression that the magma is creating light that is reflecting off the metal, and the metal its self is getting hot.

I like the base.

Good highlighting -- I agree with the user who suggested a wash to deepen the colour and shadows.

Have you varnished the figure?

BTW Anyone looking at this kind of photo needs to remember that the actual size of the figure is under half the size shown in the photo.
