Hey guys,
here is my SM walker, made from a heavily modified sentinal, a cut up SM alot of plasticard and some other bits and bobs,
thinking of calling it a 'Percutio Assault Walker' as said buy a guy on astro forum, 'percutio' meaning hard strike in latin, what a clever idea i thought!
and i bet you can guess what film the idea came from
the profile of the walker would be armour 10, 10, 10 , and its equiped with a multilaser, and a twin-linked heavy flamer.
as you can see needs painting, but here it is anway so far........................
anyway here are the pics:
and one to show size comparison to a dreadnought:
cheers guys, C+C welcome as normal!
cheers,
Matt

It's a very good piece of work, but in my opinion, the pilot needs a bit more protection. Maybe extend the harness holding him on and add some armour to the harness

It looks good I think, but I must agree with the others, having the guy hanging out there doesn't fit the heavily armoured namesake of space marines and it's a little boxxy...
If anything I think this would be fething awesome for an ork walker. Nice, blocky killing machine with just the right amount of teknology.
For a SM walker that's more like what you're looking for, I would imagine something that looks more like an exoskeleton or power armour (sorry for analogizing a bad movie, but imagine something like the mechas in the Matrix during the battle for Zion). I think that would fit better....

Space Marine Scout with Sniper Rifle

hi guys,
firs off , he is strapped in, if you look where the shoulder pads would be, there is a strap on eaither side, thats glued (but would be magnetically bolted or something) onto his chestplate. also, scene as the sm is missing his backpack, where that would clip on, i could say instead he is hooked onto the front plate of the walker bingo!
and the film i got the idea from was the Martix, at the battle of Zion, so tuatha1337 basically got it right, and LunaHound yes you are deff right! sorry darkangels_rule :(
also, about boxiness, i cant help that, sorry.
also, tuatha1337, you say having a guy hanging out doesnt fit the SM's , because its not heavily armoured enough.... well take a look at land speeders, they aint exactly heavily armoured, and this idea of a LIGHT walker, basically a fully controllable BIG serv harness if you would like to think of it that way. and a single scout, a ork, a gaudsmen, a gaunt any model, can take a railgun shot an servive.
and again, about bulkng it up.... its LIGHT, therfore doesnt need 'more' armour!
cheers,
Matt

It's a pretty cool model. I think you could get a similar effect with the arms by using the gunner arms on the SM vehicle sprue and some light gauge guitar string or wire.
My only question is how are you going to paint it? I really hope this isn't the final paintjob for the model, as silver spraypaint doesn't befit the coolness of the conversion.

hi yes mine is just some engine spray pain i found in my dads workshop lol havent a clue where he got it though! its for spraying engines to make the,m look shiny and new, its the only spray i had but better than none IMO.
im sure if you pop down to halfords ect... youll fine some cheap! or you could spray gun / airbrush on some boltgun metal, although i wouldnt reccomed sirbrushing boltgun metal, the metalic cheicals in it clog up fine scale airbrushes in seconds... i know, i tried it lol

Nice conversion matey...definitely inspired by the Matrix APU's but I think it suffers slightly from "chicken leg" syndrome...I had the same issue when I built my Predators and Whirlwind. If you armour the lower leg (ie cover the fescalized portion of the hydraulics) it will give the model more of an armoured feel and distinguish it that bit more from Sentinals. Maybe something like this.
Personally I would add some kind of targetting monocle for the Marine too (similar to an Apache Helicopter pilots rig) to give it more of a 'mechanized gun platform' feel. As for the Marine, you could make the harness more prominent and have something around his lower legs/feet to show he is properly 'strapped in'...at them moment his feet look like they could slip off the foot rests and leave him dangling.
All in all a nice conversion...I like it.

hi, advice taken and understood, as i type the glue is drying on some new straps, and the leg armour!
thanks for the pic, it enspired me to do the same!
but one question, why would you have the problem of chicken legs on your predator and whirlwind scene as... well... they have no legs ???

Its a nice conversion, but I still think the pilot restraint is a bit flimsy. Remember that he is in power armour, and while that is supposed to be heavy stuff it can also work in your favour. Rather than straps, that look a bit like he's been duct-taped into position (although thinking about it, thats kind of an awesome solution as well ) I would recomend some kind of hard-point mount, maybe using the power armour backpack mounting points.
The armour is rigid and powered and hence should be able to comfortably support the pilot in whatever pose they like, provided they have a positive connection back to the supporting vehicle. Anyway... enough rambling, I hope something in there is useful.

I have to agree with Flinty, the harness straps still look too flimsy. They could so with some bulk really and maybe a quick release buckle similar to that found on a pilots harness (the Assault Space Marines have a similar look for their jump pack harnesses). Nice effort with the leg armour though the glue splodge detracts a little from it. Still need to do something about the legs/feet though I think.
I am eager to see the finished article. Keep up the good work.

Agreed. I'd proffer some leg struts or plates for a slightly beefier leg look. Otherwise its call. Are those arms glued? If not you could use different arms and play this using termie rules, speeder rules (it runs really fast), or mayhaps a razorback. Razorback and speeder rules might be particularly apt, both being light armor.
EDIT I see you tweeked the legs, excellent. You could put the marine in a chair structure (mayhaps just a simple bench) for a harder structure support-similar to early edition landspeeders.

Everyone seems to be focusing on the modeling, but what about the playability? What rules would be used? Have to be houserules/opponent permission to "use as" it seems to me. I guess you could play them off as a squadron of bikes or skimmers...or maybe a Dread? Otherwise, very cool unique work.
