(I am also posting this on another forum, so I apologize if any of you are looking at this twice.)
OK, I finally broke down and decided to try my hand at building with plasticard. My son has wanted a warhound titan for his space marines, but I could never justify the cost of the forgeworld model. So, with Lackof's "help", I decided to give it a go.
I am using 1mm plasticard, mostly from signs I picked up from the hardware store that are only printed on one side. I am using milliput fine white for crack-filling and I know I have not gotten all of them filled yet. When I do, I will sand it down smooth.
I apologize for the pics, but a cheap camera phone is all I have available at the moment. I will get better quality pics as the project goes on.
This is my first attempt at anything like this, so constructive criticism is appreciated.

Looking good so far. I think I used the same templates to build mine. I started from the feet up. As it turned out the feet were the worst part to do , lots of little boxes done lots of times. Keep it up though , everyone loves a super heavy, except the enemy.

Looks very nice! i don't have too much experience with plasticard outside of a few small conversions; is the 1mm card strong enough to support the weight of something as big as a titan or will you be using something for a skeleton underneath?

I am pretty sure the 1mm plasticard will be able to take the weight. I am reinforcing the structures with right-angle braces where needed and there will be a piece of 1/2 inch pvc in the main body to support the roof. I started off with a mock-up in posterboard and it was strong enough (barely!) to support the structure just using itself and tape.

Thanks! I am sure I'll get my chance to play with it, but only after he pounds my Tau into the ground with it!

OK, so I haven't gotten a whole lot done in the last two days...
Here is the main body minus the top panel. My question for all of you who have already made one of these is did you reinforce the top panel by putting something inside this part? Platicard partitions? I was thinking maybe 2 pvc colums to support it?

The plans do not call for inside bulkheads but I would recommend at least two bulkheads inside of the body for durability. If this is a game piece, it will be constantly handled and it will cut down on gluing and repairing time. A good filler would be foam board sandwiched between styrene.

It is very definitely going to be a game piece. I think I might put 3 partitions in it... 2 upright and 1 horizontally.

Do you have sprue?
Is it rectangular?
If so, it makes great bracing material for the backsides of any flat panel.
And it is free.
So cut some sprue and glue it inside to stiffen the various panels.

OK, I ended up adding 3 partitions to the main body, 2 upright, to support the roof and one sideways to keep the sides from bending in.
After some more work, I managed to get the shoulders and "wings" done:
As you can see, the templates do not take the thickness of the plasticard into account. The accumulation of error that builds up from 1mm plasticard leaves some rather large gaps that will need to be filled:

Check the fit of the template first. If they do not fit, then make one out of heavy paper and keep trimming until the desire effect is gained. One you have a template in paper that meets your needs, transfer that pattern to the plasticard and it should reduce the amount of putty or green stuff to fill in the gaps.

I did make the entire thing out of heavy paper (posterboard) before I started with the plasticard. The templates worked quite well when using something that thin.
Or are you saying to make a part in plasticard and then to make the next part out of paper to check the fit against the plasticard.... Is this something you personally have done?

I assume that the plans are in a paper download. use That same pattern to check the fit. I print my plans on 120 lb weight paper. that way I have a stiff template to work with. Once I have obtained the right fit, I transfer or trace that outline to plasticard.

I'm not exactly sure what you are suggesting... When made with the heavy paper, everything works fine as the thickness of the paper is fairly negligible. The 1mm plasticard builds up an accumulation of error because the templates were unfolded from a 3D model whose sides have no width.
On another forum, it was suggested that the top and bottom pieces (of say, a cube) be made to template size with the sides being cut down by 2 mm (1 from each side) in height and 1 mm in width to make it exactly the same size as it's paper counterpart would be.
I am going to try this, but it will be much slower since I have to re-draw at least 2/3 of the parts.

Plasticard can be had fairly easily..... time can be a whole 'nother matter! I am lucky in that I work 12 hour days 3-4 days a week. Gives me a long weekend every week to model.
