Hello all. I have been painting models on and off for a few years now and decided to open a painting blog. My current project is just a few space marines as I am waiting for more paint to arrive so i can continue on my tau models.
Here is a picture of a commander I am working on. I converted the storm bolter in the commander sprue to fit onto the gauntlet and stole another from the assault marines I purchased.

:edit: I have uploaded three new pictures of the commander in progress.

Well I had went to a disturbed concert last friday and I felt a bit of inspiration in creating a Disturbed Chapter, So I figured the commander with two powerfists would represent Disturbed, and looking at the land of confusion video where "the guy" powers up his fist and it is all light blue and such. So Disturbed inspired this creation :p

Its looking good so far. I think your edging is a bit thick. The colors are a bit to get used to but I definitely like that you chose a different color scheme then normal.

I have the model apart and am now fixing the edges, as well as working on the ammo belt coming from the back pack to the storm bolter on the power fist. Im using some spare tau guns for the ammo belt.

I don't think the red works very well with the colours you've picked. The blue and purple, while not my own personal choice, are workable however that red is just so contrasting O_O. Maybe a lighter colour like beige to compliment the armour. The way he looks now, your eyes are immediately drawn to the cloth in the front.

I love the double fist though! You don't see that often.

I think that you paints are a little too thick. It looks ok on the body, but you can really tell on the fist. Other than that, nice job.

A little bit of re-painting on the commander

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I was wondering if there is a better way to apply the edging. At this point I just water my paint down alittle and dab my brush in, wiping off the excess and away I go

Looks a lot better Try and find another colour to do the seals on future models, to reduce the number of colours going on each model. Keep it up and you'll have a whole army painted in no time!

First you put on the primer to thick.

Second you really should just dry brush your models. Dry Brushing is the best way to do models when you first start painting. Anyone can drybrush. It takes some time to be able to really paint solid colors.

Why do you ask? Because if you are painting in solid colors you really need to break that color up by shading the color. If you do not know how to shade then you should NEVER paint in solid colors.

Again my suggestion is to paint them that dark blue and then dry brush it with a lighter blue.

Then paint your power fists and power weapon a little darker then the light blue you have. Then dry brush the blue you have on it now and then dry brush a white color over that.

1850 1850+ 1850+ 1850+ 1850+ 1850+ 1850+ 1850+ 1850+ 1850+ 1850+ 1850+ 1000 and counting

I may be lonely here, but I like the bright blue (never brave enough to use it myself but...). I think it would benefit from washes - the post before mentioned drybrushing (excellent idea), but I like the look a careful wash can give to a model.

It can also take the 'extremeness' out of your 'extreme highlighting'.

Consider the dark blue wash to 'tie it all together', although if you want to build it up carefully (its a very strong colour) water it down lots first.

I like the idea of a painting blog, im in dire need of feedback, so maybe I should do something similar!

Benefits of the blog are that people can visit your pics and vote on them!

Not a big fan of the color scheme or the placement of some of the highlights. The colors for highlights are just to different to jump from one to the other. All in all you have some good concepts of how to paint so its a learning step but I think color selection is your next step.

I do what the voices in my wifes head say...
