I recently decided to add some Heavy Bolter Teams to the Imperial Guard army I built in 2006. Building all the teams in your army like the picture on the box gets old very fast, so I've tried to do a bit with creating little dramatic scenes out of them. Pictures are below. I have a more detailed article about how this was done on Bell Of Lost Souls if you're interested.

The first two pictures show the team where the gunner is seated and the spotter gives a quick, furtive check over his shoulder before scooting out of the way so the gunner can cut loose.

Here the loader is feeding the ammo belt into the weapon.

Here the gunner is prone and both arms on the spotter are converted for a custom pose. This one has sand added and is ready for painting. The same sand will be added to the other two teams shown above.

Very cool

I like the nice large bases as you can make like these juicy little dioramas.

Can't wait to see them painted!

All very well done. It's very enjoyable to create scenes like these. I've done something similar with the sniper drone controller for Tau, where I've cut him out of the controller device, and have him standing next to it, scanning the horizon.

It's stuff like this that really helps folks to have fun when modelling.

1. Awesome
2. You might consider painting some of the bits (ammo box etc) before inserting them into the terrain -just a thought from someone who has difficulty painting in nooks and crannies on occasion.
3. Are those pig iron helmets on some of them? They look great.

In order of your post:
1) Thanks very much!
2) It is easier to paint parts separately before gluing, but for custom scenes like this I really like to have the whole thing set before painting begins. It requires a little more effort on the back end, but makes some aspects of this easier on the front end, like having the sand exactly how I want it on and around all the parts. I've worked this way before with good results, but it's not for everyone.
3) All the heads and model parts are GW. No third party model parts were used.

Thanks for your interest. If you want to see more models like this already painted and a good bit of the rest of my Imperial Guard army, check out my album on Flickr.

Sorry for the confusion, but since this was my hobby article (i.e., I created the article to display my own project) you can see where I might have misunderstood. As a courtesy to others and to help promote the hobby, I generally try to respond to direct questions about projects I've posted.

Thanks for sharing. Absolutely, I'm a mad converter. Chaos is my favorite model range and I really like to go wild with that one, such as with a scratch converted Chaos Stormlord, Tower of Skulls, Brass Scorpions and of course, the Chaos Marines themselves. Pics of some of these models are here.

I think the other questions were related to your models (and they are awesome!). I was attempting to enhance, rather than hijack your thread, so apologies if you feel I overstepped.

Good luck on the painting!

Here are some HW teams I finished last night. My inquisitorial IG vs. Khorne Marines!

For this 1st one I used an old chunk of Ork Warbuggy I had lying around
The 2nd Uses bits I tore off of a converted battlewagon... It was bad.
!!!PIC HEAVY!!!
Do you think the "mini tank" makes a better HW team or Sentinal?

I think these look cool, but I don't know about the concept of a 'battlefield debris' diorama for the heavy weapons teams. Its sort of like you have a heavy weapons team, and this pile of junk that comes with them, as they advance across the battlefield. I don't know. I just think that teams with overly elaborate bases are wonky when you're moving them across the table.

maybe so, but how often do these things actually move? I like the idea of building teams that are set up against a particular foe however. I'm currently working on my knorne setup to use against khorne/chaos players. next is salamanders, followed by orks. I plan to have a HW team collection for each opponent I come across.

Good God, Man!

Do you typically field alot of Hvy Weapons? That's a lot of work!

In some of my builds I do, generally friendly/fluffy lists. I Think the HW team lost most of it's competitive credibility with the new dex. I like building these more than anything else. The mechanized HW tank thing I posted above will most likely see the tabletop more than my diorama teams for a while.
