I am in the end stages of this tank, and am seeking some advise on how it looks. In these pictures it has a glossy coat on for the weathering process, but the final sealant will be a nice flat coat.

I am looking for some suggestions to make it better and look more rough and tumble. I am going to put on some cammo netting later tonight (ASH's technique on Warseer).

How are those sandbags staying on? and the mud on the tread is so very very thick...


Camo is nice though!

The weathering is quite nice and I'm a fan of the mud on the tracks idea.

The sandbags on the side look a little, well, pillowy for lack of a better term, but that's likely due to the contrast. Maybe keep the current colour as the highlight and work downwards to shade them a bit?

The only other improvement I can suggest is to take the shine off of the tank somehow. If it's been sealed like that though, that may be tough to do without seriously covering the model in a flat sealant.

It is a very nice paint job though. Great work.

You have a lot of mud ,( looks like wet clay ), on those tracks. I think it needs to be "sprayed" over the rest of the tank more. Otherwise top painting.

like the mud but as thick as it is on the tread there should be some on the tank,keep the gloss on the mud as with the mud if you decide to add some on the tank,dull down the tank its self with a matt finishalso add a brown wash to tose brand new sand bags and some strappingon them to add how they are held on...unless there like sticky bombs from saveing private ryan.....even then they would some grme on them because they are very close to the muddy ground...one last thing do you have your IG in that muddy base look to carry it through your army..that would be cool

Let me preface by saying that this tank already looks beyond table-top and is fine as-is.

My two cents....

1. What are those sandbags doing there? Remove them.
2. Tanks are not shiny...ever. Spray some dull coat on it, Drybrush it with the base color slowly lightening the shade, then re-apply the rust.
3. I agree w/ Vodski on the mud. It looks great but you may want to "splash" it up onto the chassis more.

Oh one more thing i noticed is those backpacks, Where did you get those they are pretty cool. Also the different thickness antennas are irking me, you shoud replace the plastic one anyway it will just break

Thanks for the CC. As to your comments (In reverse order):

Fire: The backpacks are from a Tamiya Kit. Allied stowage or something like that. Lots of interesting kit on those frames. I had been debating about the larger antena, but your right about the breakage, its going goodbye.

Mark: Sandbags: They are there to provide some additional side protection. Tankers in WW2 used them, they will be held in place by a netting, when I get it on the tank.
Glossy spray is only a protective coating for the weathering stage. It will be oversprayed with a nice flat finish when done.
Splashy mud, got it. will remix my mudd up and go mud up the bottom chassis more.

31: Sandbags will get more weathering\aging.

For some reason I would feel safe to run head first into your pillow tank.

The brown mud on it looks intimidating enough for anyone other than Nurgle to stay 30 inches away.

Ok. I have added the netting, replaced the antenna, and added more mud around the tank. I included a Praetorian IG sgt standing by it for scale. I need to work on the barrel soot when I get a chance, it just does not look right yet and I am out of time this weekend for modeling (bah work tomorrow). It is still in its gloss coating (although it is less noticeable now) until I am happy with the soot etc when it will be sprayed with a nice flat coat or sealant.

I am really only bleh about the netting right now. Maybe it will grow on me. What is the consensus?

Netting should be lighter in color to make it easier to tell the difference with mud.

No offence, but your netting looks like the alien vines from the movie remake of "War of the Worlds".

JP: No offense taken at all. The more I look at the netting, the more I dont like it. I think I am going to have to doctor it up some, live with it, and get on to the next tank (6 LR, 8 Chimes, 3 Hydras, and 1 Deathstrike to go) lol.

Needless to say, unless I can get better results with the netting, I will be leaving it off of the rest of my tank force.

Hmm.... mud being... thick? MAn who would of thought!?!? Im a mud bogger.........and that looks like normal mud to me. Nice job on the mud. Im not hip on the gloss but hey it looks good man

netting usally carries a camo pattren,so bring up thetone and add some camo and maybe a little flok,or just paint the camo on the netting and wash with brown or even some stain.it looks great,the gloss on the tank is kind of well glossy just bring down then gloss on the tank armor not the mud,ilike the wet mud it adds a nice effect
