I got one tip for ya: DON'T paint them as ultrasmurfs.

All of my marines are ultra, however I try to do as many conversions as I have time to do when assembling a squad to make them unique that way. Buy plastic marines where possible, it really helps in this department. Other things I find that help in this area are special sceneic/themed bases, self modeled add-ons, freehand painted banners, freehand nose art, and many other custom additions are a great way to really make your army stand out. The colour scheme you chose is what people first see, but as they get closer and see the details of your models they quickly forget they have a stigma against blue marines and thats when you know you have done a decent job.
