I just bought my first Ork Trukk and I'm having trouble making a decision, should I assemble and paint it in stages, or paint it after I assemble it?

I'd base coat it before assembly. If you have a 'Ard top on it, leave that off and paint it before gluin it on. Drivers, gunners can also be painted out of the vehicle.

Otherwise, I'd assmble it to paint it assembled. it really helps with a sense of uniformity (or in the orks case similar randomness).

On the pic of the attached tank, it was painted assembled, but the turret was painted seperate as some pieces get in the way

OK, Thanks. Now to keep my fingers crossed and hope I have enough spray primer left to finish it. Half the time, my CLGS is out of primer.

You are far better doing quite a lot of work on the "sprue" the more you can get done the better as as MM says there are loads of little places once assembled you cant reach with the Paint Brush or if you can hard to control

good luck have fun .

I disagree entirely. I don't think you are ever better off painting stuff on the sprue. There is a big difference between painting stuff on the sprue and painting stuff before it gets assembled.

I would always go with removing the sprues and dry fitting the vehicle together. If you do this in stages then you can decide yourself if you need to paint some parts/assemblies before gluing them together. Taking my Vendetta as an example I've put together the fuselage and tail assembly as one section, the cockpit as one section and the wings as one section each. These sections can then be dry fitted together to work out where paint should go but means that the various bits don;t get in the way of each other. (also for the valkyrie model, always remember to paint your engines before attaching them to the fuselage).

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Ya, on sprue also leaves unpainted spots where its connected, so you end up going back and touching those up.

Different strokes for different folks ...

my post was directed to mean that you painted as much as you can before final gluing hence "sprue" been in quote marks
