About to eat your Avatar...

Hello DakkaDakka, I have started this BLOG (first of all to figure out the best way to use a blog) to organize my wargaming related scratch built sculptures, as well as the construction and painting of my eldar craftworld; I do plan to make terrain, and I will share that as well. Most of the terrain I will make is going to be with help from friends. Wouldn't mind making a eldar craftworld model in it's full 3-d glory, but for now I do not have the space for such a project. Scratch-building is sculpting, there really is no difference between the two phrases. Scratch-building might be more appropriately applied to functional objects such as a solar oven or some such thing. I will be taking a lot of time to test as many products as I can... well in moderation of course. If I find stuff that works well I will tell you about it. As soon as I get my hands on all of the types of milliput and kneadatite I will begin a log of how my experiments; I plan to make a mix that can actually damage post-metal with a hit. Like a strength 6 epoxy putty against armor 11 . .

My current WIP's:

- Scratch-built Nurgle Apocalypse Titan
Linky to the full project=

I am keeping this thread in the painting and modeling section until the sculpting is completed. If this works for the Modquisition I would prefer to put my sculptures in that area to get the maximum amount of concentrated feedback.

CONCEPT

PROGRESS WHEEEERE IS MY GREEN STUUUUFFFFF.

Scratch-built Eldar heavy weapons platform

- 1850 points of Eldar units (around 1250 of which has been bought)
- [b]I have:
One Autarch with fusion gun
One Farseer with singing spear
One squad of 5 Pathfinders (Being painted)
Pics will be posted as soon as I make some real progress.
One squad of 10 Dire avengers (Being painted)

One squad of 6 Harlequins, and Shadowseer
One squad of 6 Fire dragons
One squad of 8 Striking scorpions
One Wraithlord

My current concepts and ideas:

- Scratch-built Eldar Titan (Much larger than the current one)
- 3-4 ft. tall Scratch-built Wraithlord for my local store (shh... this one is a secret... I think I will make them paint it )
- Scratch-built Chaos dragon ( not mine http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/chaosdp.htm )
- Fully scratch-built Ork army (1000-2000 points)
- Scratch-built sisters of battle models

Update on the Dire avengers. This paintjob is turning a bit scatter-brained but it doesn't look half bad IMHO.

C&C is appreciated.

I got a bit bored and decided to make a bit of terrain out of air drying clay. I want to see if the clay will hold detail after I shellac, and base-coat it.

Now all I have to do is a bit of reinforced pinning and magnetizing the arms and weapons... (head will be posable)

Thanks DC.

Here is my "final" pose for the Wraithlord. I am debating whether or not to magnetize the arms for some reason, I should really just do the hands and weapons so I don't take forever with this model. I will turn Brightlance into an eldar "joker" magnum by adding a grip on the bottom portion.

"BY THE POWER OF GREYSKULL I SHOOT YOU IN THE EYE WITH MY OVERSIZED PISTOL (note this pistol is not because I have a small... hat )".

There is no way in hell I am going to use the shuriken catapults as sidearms so those are officially flamers from now on. If someone REALLY has a problem with this, well they can sod off I suppose. At a tourney I will just make sure to put the flamer arms... man I don't want to have to magnetize the side-arms... what a waste of a magnet and my time. The big' ol ead' will just be kept on the peg so I can make my own head and put it on at some point. Something... a bit less like humpty dumpty on top of the wall; something a bit more futuristic.

Looks like a little fishy... "SHOOT THE FISHY". "It's a Wraithlord sir". " SOLDIER, SHUT UP AND SHOOT THE FISHY... dammit you know what I mean".

C&C appreciated.

Wraithlords are agile and can move gracefully, and so can adopt any pose.

But they feel no emotion, so something like a "bring it" pose seems really out of character for them.

I always imagined a Wraithlord moving in a slightly slouched way. I thought the sword formed a really nice outline and some cutting and green stuff on the wrist I can bring the arm to life so to speak.

I was going for a relaxed yet totem-like look, with a bit of style to keep the model interesting to me. It is a bit anime I will give you that, but w/o a face you would need to do something pretty drastic to make the Wraithlord look like it is really saying something.

I forgot to do a frontal pic. The different head poses give a different flavor to the model, and making the angle passive should take care of the "Hey you!" problem.

I decided to prime the terrain I made earlier. I was going to put some stuff on it, but I want to see how it performs as a test paint model.

What colors do you think this should be painted? I can't really say what it is exactly, just that it is supposed to be alien terrain covered in weird little plants. I based it black, so I suppose my palette is limited by that. I am pretty new to painting and would really appreciate any insight into how to go about making this look like rock or dirt. I'll decorate the terrain with a bit of assorted pebbles and whatnot, perhaps some static grass or something.

KC agrees with DC on the sword arm position. It ALMOST looks like its scratching its but. Other then that I like it. Very imposing. Why the hell are Eldar so cool looking lol

Thank you for the comments. I plan to adjust the arm so it is a bit less "butt-scratching" (), and I will have two arms for the gun. One gun arm will be as I have posted before, the second will show the "pistol-rifle" being aimed. The sword arm will be magnetized, and I was thinking of making a wraith-dagger or short-sword if you may; I could use one of the leftover swords from my Dire avengers set for a dagger, and I could scratch-build a short sword later along the line.

I have messed around with some home-made washes, and it turned out quite well. I have some definition to add, but I will have to look through my paints, and see what I can mix up. I may just get a couple new paints because I need them for my aspect warriors that have still not arrived along with my green stuff.

Pretty much done, I don't want to overdo this one. I need to pick up some wash to finish the ground. Should I add water to the center? I could paint the ground with some of this vallejo gunmetal blue. Then layer on some varnish coated with a bit of thinned blue ink, After about 20 thin layers it would be around 1/8" thick.

I won't keep you hanging, I am doing an Ulthwe scheme ... SURPRISE!!!

I think Ulthwe and Biel-tan are the only schemes I like for the overall army schemes. I will most likely paint a Saim-hann scheme on any Fire prisms (hmm...50$, I don't know about that one) and jetbikes (DIE VYPERS DIE, YOU SUCK) and by jetbikes I mean the cheap boxset (DIE BLISTER DIE, YOU SUCK) of jetbikes that has mysteriously dissapeared from GW's line of products... Hmm, I did like where you were going on the original pose. Heres a thought before you make the new one permanent. The sword arm. How about, take the sword OFF, twist the hand around so the "fingers" are facing the front of the wraith lord. Then put the sword back in the hand, so its holding said sword in the reverse (so bakwards I guess) and have the sword blade angled more towards the wraithlords shoulders. That way it looks like he attacks with the sword reversed like all badasses do, and its some what "hiding" it behind his back for that surprise attack.
