Subject: Demon (:D) cannon from scratch in under 2 hours??? = If you are prepared (Painting)

Ok... I have a mini-challenge for myself, and will need a bit of help to complete it.
I want to make one D-cannon from scratch in under 2 hours. 2 1/2 really but it has to dry, etc...
Any advice on this one? I need it for a co- op tourney.
Update:
These are the finished product, well as close as I am going to take it for now. I'll give it some paint at some area of space and time, somewhere in the near future. I can't say this looks half-bad anymore, the rough texture and lack of fine detail aside. This is stage 2 out of 3 in the mini-project, I am sure to get bored some point in the next week and take it upon myself to complete this thing in a fashion that will please the eyes palette. MMMmmmm eye omelettes.... wait what?
I'll beef the gun up and add my own type of "stabilizers" to the barrel. If I get some guitar wire from someone I'll add bits of tube and guitar wire as a complicated external coolant structure. I always thought the Eldar should look a bit more fragile... and generally more elfish with their technology. Everything besides the Wraithlord and a few other units looks like the molds expanded somehow and every eldar have a teensy weight problem and giant heads. I don't recall elves ever having particularly large heads at any point in my fantasy "career". But in the future their brains have grown so large that their helmets end up soaking the excess up. That is why they have normal sized heads when they take their helmets off.
And some new SHINY!!!

Here is my progress so far. Nothing fancy just wood glue, corrugated cardboard, and cardstock (cereal box stuff).
I hope my camera doesn't decide to run out of batteries during this build.

I'd have done it out of plasticard for the stand, then put polyester putty round a cylindrical piece of wood or something, baked it so it dried slightly faster, then turned it on a power drill to sand it roughly into a D-cannon shape. Scratch out the nobbles at the end, spray it, and bob's your uncle!

I have a bit of styrofoam board somewhere, but I could not find it so I have to make it this way as I have no plasticard, or more than a smidge of putty for that matter.

I went to the tourney and I was allowed to field the D-cannon. I actually had to proxy some models to fill out my army because of the new GW rules for online internet sales. My order had "special items" ( GW feels that they are very special and they want you to know that...lower your prices jesus; no not you jesus.) so it apparently takes three trips around the planet to arrive at my house. Either that or someone forgot to mail my package...
I did okay in the tourney but I lost 2/3 games by default. The first game an new Ork player fielded around 90 boyz (this was a random 2v2 750 point tourney), and it just took most of the game for him to move his troops... which is all he had, and yes it was definitely a 5 flag game ( ). My last match we did not get our round in the third turn so we lost because of previous bad rolling, and our would-be assaults were stopped dead in their tracks... lame.
For a super quick build this worked quite well, and a bit of putty and some well placed cuts would give you a pretty nice mini. The turret is a bit too high, and the shape is a tiny bit off, but I am just never ever ever going to spend that ridiculous amount of money on such an unimpressive model with two guardians.
Thank you for your C&C,

Not good for any amount of time sorry.
You could have taken a block of wood and sanded it down to do the base of the weapon and then just used plastic rods and stuff for the gun.
Pretty easy to do.

What are you trying to say here?
You bought stuff off the net which was pirate manufacture and tourney organisers suspected they were knock offs, you bought from the net and your stuff didnt arrive in time and you are blaming GW prices for this, or something else?

HUH??? I have no idea how you extrapolated that from what I said. PIRATED GOODS??? Is that a joke?
My stuff is really late, because of changes mad by GW recently to the way they distribute the models. Kingcracker mentioned that I should have planned ahead, but I actually did, and things did not work out. I did not want to have to proxy half of my army so I built this D-cannon to have a bit of fun and waste some time, as well as making an attempt to field my own D-cannon.

No it wasnt, your post was so unintelligible I had no idea what you were hinting at. Being caught with bootleg models was one of several options.

Online stores are actually referring to GW items as "special items" now, as you can no longer order them directly online. I guess I was a bit unclear, but I can't help but feel insulted by your grasp of the english language, and my obviously cave-man like post.

I say we give him an A for the effort and ingenuity and a C- for the final result. The model looks pretty rough, but the overall shape was retained - a bit more detail painting and who knows, it might have been passable.

He has a pretty consistent habit of making very rude "insights"
Anyway though. I am not sure where people got the idea that I was making a piece of art here. Seriously... it is a few pieces of cardboard and glue, I just took the time to think about how to make it "convincing". It is not something I would take to UKGW and expect by any reasonable means to actually be able to use it. I like the fact that you can actually play this game w/o any GW models. I have no plans of avoiding GW products altogether, they obviously have the upper hand in the models, they have already made.
If I want to make a beautiful piece of sculpture you will know it, and I will be spending a huge amount of time doing research and conceptual design. No amount of Orky know-how can beat professionally designed and manufactured products; if you have spent months and or/years on a project and it ends up better than a GW model it is because you put the time and effort into making something amazing. This is not a replacement of the D-cannon and I would hesitate to post a serious tutorial on making them from scratch for a few reasons, most of which have nothing to do with legalities.
If you learned a little bit from this little project and would like to elaborate on the concept, by all means feel free to do so. I would like to see other methods and techniques used to accomplish the same goal. And yes, with milliput, GS, and some paint this could be a very nice model; sometimes simplicity, even when ugly as hell, appeals more to me than any other style.

i sat and laughed at mauleed's post.
he had 2 HOURS. with 2 days he could have gone to the shop, bought the right equipment and sat there for an hour and a half sanding a block of wood by hand.
and it is SOOOOOO easy to say "then just used plastic rods and stuff for the gun. " he was inventive and it worked. you do realise acting like an idiot to people does not make you look professional or earn you respect. IMHO it does the opposite. so be nice or people will continue hating you.
