don't forget prices on website include VAT (a UK tax) not chargable to foreign sales. It is pure additional profit on overseas sales of 15% (ish) and the cheeky so-and-so's have the nerve to charge additional postage on overseas sales. Nothing like bend your customers over a table at every opportunity. Bastards.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

Wow, just wow.

They are a UK company, they have to pay VAT on everything they sell, no matter where it is sent. You can claim it back if you want under EU law, but it is costly. Therefore you pay VAT. Furthermore, you are expected to pay customs duty when you recive the parcel, depending on what state you are in. Don't like it? Well, should have remained part of the UK then shouldn't you.

Now that is just a spectacular display of ignorance - maybe you should just try commenting on stuff you actually know something about.

Point one: I am English, I am an accountant and I used to prepare VAT returns.
Point two: I now live in the US, as my flag indicates (courtesy of an American wife)
Point three VAT is not chargable on sales to countries outside of EU (I called it foreign sales as UK is part of EU). However it is in the universal price that FW charges.
Point four: The head of FW agreed with the principles of my complaint but also said they didn't expect an UK accountant with VAT experience to be buying from the US as a Johnny foreigner. Oh, and they aren't going to change it as it is legal.

Now I haven't dealt with this in about 10 years, but you cannot claim VAT back via a purchase made on a website, it can usually only be claimed upon leaving the country as a visitor and usually the goods & the receipt have to be with the claimant when presesented to the Revenue Inspector. I am quite prepared to admit that I could be wrong on that part. However, it would be easy not to charge VAT on a foreign sale on a website.

It just is unethical to charge something you do not going to give to the government when it is obviously built into the price.

Anyway ... {insert smart comment with foul language questioning your parentage, admiring your ability to go copulate with just yourself present and crying at the general degrading standards of the once great British educashun sistum}

My mother was Italian/Russian/English and of Russian Jewish decent, My Father is a Italian raised as a Catholic and my English Grandfather served in the RAF as an officer during WW2. I was Born in Italy (though I speak no Italian) but lived from the ages of 18 months to 15 in London. I went to a CoE Primary then a Catholic Secondary School, I then moved to Ireland before finishing my Edumacation at a Irish Catholic School. Am now Stuck here cause I can't afford a new passport and/or a Plane Ticket

But yeah, the main point is, they can Charge VAT, sucks to be you
