Hey all, just thought I'd drop by and let you know about my army in a weekend I'm attempting. I've got 2,000 points of Chaos marines to build and paint, and my roommate is doing 1500 points of orks.
My army, the evil Chaos Marines!
We're going to be updating every few hours so if you want to keep tabs on my progress head on over to http://www.40kbasement.com I'll try to post some pics here as well, but time will be limited with all of the modeling and such.
Hyde's army, the xenos scum orks!
I really just got tired of everyone at my game club not painting their armies, so I figured if I showed them that you can do an army in a weekend then they really couldn't ever give me an excuse again. So wish me luck and stop by to say hello!
|
Thanks,
MegaDave |

I wish you luck! I almost managed 1500pts of Dark Angels in a single weekend, but that was a Doublewing army with only 25 models or so...

Ok, so the first update of the weekend! I have finished all of the bases sans static grass, and I have plowed through the terminators, chaos lord, possessed and raptors. Only 30 marines, 3 rhinos, landraider and defiler to go!
Here is what happened to the bases, can you see how the glue bubbled up? Normally I wouldn't be a fan, but for the chaos army I kinda like it. It's almost as if the ground is mutating beneath them as they walk!
My chaos lord minus his shoulder pads and cape. I liked that mandible head so much I decided the lord needed it, and it fit perfectly!
Here are the bases glued and ready for paint...
... which they got slathered in, completely brown. Between the paint seal and the epoxy glue, that sand is going nowhere. ;D
Here they are finished with a drybrush of vomit brown. This took me a whole 10 minutes to drybush the entier armies bases, such a time saver compared to doing each model individually. If you are thinking of doing an army, this is the way to go!
@ Andrewdrexler - Thanks, that is the manta my buddy made for our display base at adepticon this year.
Thanks to everyone else who is wishing me luck, I'm gonna need it!

Thanks,

18 marines to go before the vehicles, I think I can get them all assembled tonight.
The possessed, minus backpacks, which will be sprayed later.
The raptors, minus their wings.
The terminators, ready to be primed.
Chaos Icon Bearers, minus backpacks and shoulder pads. (They are being sprayed black seperately.)
The Chaos Champions, all with power fists.
Chaos Marines with a flamer. Notice that his flamer is also his arm, from the possessed sprue! 88|
And a picture of me in frenzied assembly mode! Take a good look now, I'm sure I'll be much more haggard by the end of the weekend!

Are you guys painting them to bare min table top level or well? Because if you can pull off painting that many points in one weekend and do a good job of it..you should consider doing it for a living..

By the looks of it you have a solid assembly line set up, and you should actually be able to pull this off with time for one bathroom break .

Infantry are finished, onto the vehicles. Blarg.
To answer the questions about the painting, I am going to make them look as nice as possible. I'm planning on drybushing most of it, with green as the main color of the armor. The armor trim will be gold, with regular layering for the flesh. Washes will be applied, time permitting.
I'll go back and do eyes and junk if I have the time, which I think I can pull off as long as I get all the basecoats done tomorrow.

lol should do a time lapse pic series, take one pic like every 5 or 10 minutes.
Watching the cans of Rockstar/Monster pile up in the background in time lapse might be as amusing as watching the army form up

Ok, still no sleep, but only three rhinos to go, hooray for me!
This is the land raider, sans spikes. They are going to be painted seperately on the sprue.
This is ademonically possessed land raider, so the tentacle might help convey that idea. This was actually by accident, as I forgot to glue in the little sensor array. So I guess in this case being stupid due to lack of sleep actually worked in my favor! )
Ok, got to finish the rhinos then the painting begins!
I know this is completely off topic but i love your hair
Thank you much, haven't cut it in a year! (And my hair is always on topic, lol! )
Well, if nothign else your motivation has inspired me to keep cleaning so I can get my studio area set up
Awesome, glad I am motivating someone besides my sorry butt. BTW, I've killed 14 cans of soda so far. I don't know if that is a lot, but i think it is the only thing keeping me going now. That and excedrin.

This is a pretty ambitious project, I'm watching it with interest. It also sounds like your paint scheme is the same or similar to that of my chaos marines; green with gold trim.
