My club is planning to film a video batrep of a Planetstrike game in celebration of it's release (and to indulge one of our members who likes to do such things). I will be playing orks as defender guarding a fortified mek's workshop from an assault by Flesh Tearer beakies looking to shut it down.

I am planning out and building some new terrain especially for the game/video ( In Planetstrike the defender gets to set up the whole table however he wants, so I figured I'd go one better and actually build some themed terrain specifically to fit the story of the battle, etc.).

will alsohopefully be building some board sections, barricades, fortifications, and gun emplacements if all goes well.

Here is the start of the first two pieces( the main section of the Mek's workshop itself and a "vent" thingy with hose that can attach):

Still very WIP, as I need to do a ton more detailing, rivet work, glyph plates, door, basing for the piece, etc., etc. but the basic shape is taking form.

The crows nest is big enough to put a Mek w/ SAG in (Imagine that), and the roof will be big enough to hold a squad of shoota boyz, though i won't be mounting any fixed weapons on the workshop itself as I'll save those for the surrounding fortification pieces to come once I figure out the design for them and get a look at the Planetstrike book to see what it allows in this regard...

In response to all the feedback my initial post garnered here is a second installment of this terrain project (Gotta love the speed at which Dakka pushes threads off the front page into oblivion).

Still WIP, I'll be adding more plates/gubbinz , etc. But I want to get the basic structures done so we can start testing out the Planetstrike rules as soon as we get the book.

These are only base coated (dusting of rusty red primer over black primer) at this point.

I'll probably make 2-3 more sections like this, and mix them in with the GW orky barricades which should give me enough to make a decent sized fortification combined with the planned looted Imperial bastion...

Got a surprise in the mail today from The Warstore(shameless plug):

Two sets of the GW orky barricades that i had ordered that will blend in nicely with the stuff i am building:

I plan to keep one set stock and the other I'll chop up and add bitz to to make them look different and increase their mileage. I base coated both sets (painting/detailing to come)

Da fort is starting to take shape!!!

I really really like it. The only criticism I can think of is that the hose looks a couple inches too long, it stretches out the piece and sort of diverts the eye from the main building.

I love orky terrain! One thing I'm not clear on is how to give the orky peices a rusted look. I've used some rusting techniques on individual models, but how do you do that in bulk, with large terrain peices like this?

Yeah that piece is just sort of staged up in that pic and not finalized. I like the look/texture of the ribbed hose and want to use it in various places, but it may get shortened/altered.

Well I plan to do a bunch of washes on these pieces. I'm starting by priming them back and then doing a lrust red primer over that as you see in these pics as a base. When I get to painting I plan to detail everything, paint plates red and other colors, add checks and ork gylphs and lots of edge wear, etc. Then I plan to do a number of washed(oily black, rust, etc.) to finish the effect. I'll be trying to achieve a similar look to the orky terrain in the Apoc. book, but perhaps with a little more variety of color and detail...

if you have the bits, you could build a bunch of half done trukks and other machinery to lie around the shop. that would be interesting cover

Those would be cool

Somepieces I have planned:

1. squig pen

2. Ammo dump

3. Looted Imperial Bastion

4. Some gun emplacements

5. Crashed ork fighta

6. Various scrap piles

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Productive day today as i managed to Kit-bash a Big shoota tower( shown with an ork boy for scale):

Here it is showing how it can be added in to the fortification pieces:

I have another one in the works but I'm thinking that I will make it as a rokkit launcha tower as that would be the closest orky equivilant to the lascannon gun that comes with the Imperial bastion for Planetstrike and as an orky defender I'll want to be able to represent orky alternatives...

Good work. I approve of this stuff.

Few update pics:

Built some orky interceptor guns and reworked the fort to add the loader crane for the interceptor gun's shells, etc.

Looking to play a game of Planetstrike for a battlereport video my club plan to make in early august and since it is going to be orks(defender) vs. marines(attacker) I thought I would bash out some orky fortifications. It will be useful in general however...
