Under the couch

For those who don't venture over into the P&M Blogs section, I thought I'd put up the completed pics of this little fellow, a recently finished commission job:.

Magnetised right arm weapons, left arm with DCCW and built in heavy flamer. Includes twin-linked lascannons, heavy flamers, and autocannons, a Quad-Reaper prototype (counts as an assault cannon) and a Seismic hammer with built-in meltagun so the dread can be used as an Ironclad variant.

Based on this artwork from the Horus Heresy cardgame.

You can find more pics in the Under The Couch gallery, and the WIP thread detailing his construction in the UTC forums here or buried in amongst my other WIP projects in the mega 'What's on Insaniak's Workbench' thread here on dakka.

I'm not sure if I ever mentioned that I like your work. If not, this kicks butt.

I'm a fan. It's a very nice design that completely divorces itself from the basic GW Dreadnought, and looks like something that could stride and even run across the battlefield a lot easier than the boxy original model.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

I like some of it but not all of it.

As for work put into it.... awesome.

@ Agamemnon2
You have to remember that the Imperium doesn't upgrade it's tech. It uses the same old stuff. So boxy tanks and dreads.

Given the artwork on which this was based, it would seem that GW disagree...

Technology changes slowly in the Imperium, but it does change.

GW agrees? They put out a new Ven Dread and it's boxy. FW = boxy. If you are talking about a picture on a book or something then that is totally different. We have only models to judge this by and all imperial vehicles are boxy. Even the flying ones.

Wow. Very true to the artwork.

Don't knock the guy for following the artwork. It's an amazing scratchbuild.

Any pics of this or similar painted?

I love it. It looks like an updated 'Veteran" version of the old RT style dreadnought. Most impressive.

Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Venerable =/= Pre-Heresy. Just 'older than a regular Dread'...

The models tell us what the current Imperial Tech in use in the game looks like. They don't definitively say 'This is what all Imperial tech looks like, and always has'

The artwork I linked to is a piece of GW art, depicting a Pre-Heresy Dreadnought. Whether or not Dreadnoughts look like that in the 'current' timeline, and whether or not all pre-Heresy Dreadnoughts looked like that (Remembering that the Marine Legions were much less standardised during the heresy) the artwork shows us that at least some Dreadnoughts were a little less boxy than the current version.

I like that very much. The face kind of reminds me of that movie IronGiant.

When it arrives, and when I can find the time, I'll be sure to post up pictures of it painted!

That's just stunning. It went through a stage during construction where I was worried it would look like an egg but now its fantastic.

Cant wait to see it painted, what colour scheme will it have ?

It is indeed for my Ravenguard marine army, which will have a lot of Pre-Heresy elements to it.
