heya guys (and girls, you know you're there), I just finished constructing my land raider in one night (after like 2 years of it sitting in the box :S) anyway, its sitting on my painting desk now, I have intended it to be a tribute to my late cousin, and as such have named the tank E Immortalis, written in silver on the top of the assault ramp, i was thinking of covering the rest in chainmail swirl patterns, make it really intricate, pay attention to every part, as a tribute and also to represent the status of the tank as a "master crafted' vehicle as it were.

I wont bore you with the fluff details, but I was looking for some ideas as to how to make it look unique, the very broad and general backstory is that this tank dates back to around horus heresy, so very old, a bit of wear and tear but nothing too major, the main thing, is that the chapter has been separate from the imperium for 10,000 years, and since this tank is that old, is has constantly been worked on by the techmarines (or similar according to fluff) and so has gained a unique and ancient look, like a mix of artificer armour and venerable dreadnought, mainly looking for ideas on how to achieve that look,

the chapter colours are black, white, and regal blue, and silver

Just a man, standing in front of a paint pot, trying to remeber if I rinsed boltgun metal in it.

You should make wider bigger smoke staks, and textured murals representing the chapters great history, and finnaly under the chainmail swirls have a chaos black out lined gold crozius arcanum painting and have it be your high chaplains ride.

but thats just my opinion.

cheers!

Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I Die, You are forgiven. If I Live, I will kill you." Such is the Rule of Honor.

nice idea for your Land Raider. and a nice way of having some personal attatchment to it through your late cousin. i can't really sugest much other than let your passion run and the ideas will come to you.
And awesome work converter! the thunderfires fit very nicely into the sponson.

Whoa, that LR looks friggin sweet with those cannons on there. Did you have any problems getting those to fit on there? Or do they just go right on?

no they do not get right on i needed the parts from the blood angels baal predator 4x (sponson parts).
and it took a long peace of paperclip to get it connected to eachother i have pictures of the process.

i`ll open a tread to show everybody the WIP.

cheers.

just an idea for an engine back from an old lr project (those were wip shots obviously). maybe make the smoke stacks look more like the preheresy forgeworld kit? also, maybe reinforce the side sponson areas so that they look like they wont be blown off by a stray plasma gun shot LOL.

The baneblade kit has a bunch of bits to make the landraider look older, and more combat efficient (gas barrels and the little viewing slits like cathedral windows)

Look in the Space Marines codex at Calgar's Land Raider for ideas on fanciness. Don't copy it exactly, but it seems to have some good ideas on it.

If you don't have the codex I found some pictures.

In each of those arches is a mural of Calgar doing some over powered story crap. It's only don't in black lines, but it would look better as coloured pictures instead.

well, back again, I finished constructing the bad boy in one night...so I think that wins, and for the last week or so have been looking at it and sporadically painting a little bit, I've got some WIP pics, I found and just added then a couple of lego bits, from the knight's set or similar, makes it look rather cool if i do say so myself I'm almost definitely going to go at this tank with my stanley knife and a file, see what happens, maybe cut a few gouges, anyway, on to the pics, they are terrible quality but hopfeully they give you guys an ok idea of the stuff I'm making -

original WIP pic, this was before it was all constructed or had undercoat, around 7:30 PM

this is putting the treads on, I left the top inglued for obvious reasons, watching torchwood while putting it together, I nearly ran out of glue at this stage

the finished beast in all its glory, this was before anything on the outside, so it was pristine at that stage, oh except for the ramp

a close up of the ramp, E stands for Elliot, my cousin, and immortalis is both part of my chapter name and immortality in latin...a good name i think

my main painting work, its one of the side doors, and is not quite finished, the rest of the tank will have similar detail all over it albeit more spread out, so that it doesnt just look white, or checkered..the black of the tank is the predominant colour

annd the work i did today, the lego bits to be precise, i just glued them on, and oddly they look almost designed to go there...coincidence? i think not, aliens are responsible

and a final shot showing how i tried to weather it, the modifications arent complete yet, but this is a start.

this is my first tank, so try not to judge to harshly, though being an 'adult' i spose i can handle it. Anyway, c&c welcome
