As I'm sure many people have done, I want to convert some Black Orcs into 'Ard Boyz for my Orks. I've seen some really cool conversions floating around and I know it's possible to 40k-ify them a bit. My only problem is that nobody has posted a simple size comparison. Searching Dakka and the Interweb never turned up anything of the sort. I just want to make sure that they're not too big before I go out and buy them, as a mob of Nob-sized 'Ard boyz wouldn't look right to me, especially if they were bigger than the current 40k nobz.

So what I'm asking for is just either a picture or solid testimonial comparing a Black Orc to a regular Ork boy or something of the sort. Thanks!

IIRC,they are about the same size as the average orky boy.

My solid testimonial based off of the few Orcs and Black Orcs I have versus my Orks...

Orcs are slightly larger than Ork boyz but not as big as Nobs.
Black Orcs are slightly larger than Nobs.

I have not had any real issues with conversions, however.

Ive tossed the idea around of using black Orcs (with some convertin of course) as counts as mega armored nobz. For 2 reasons. They are cool looking and covered in ARMOR! and 2. Because they are a tad larger then a nob.

Bigger than a nob? Really? I want a comparison picture just so I can be sure how big Black Orcs really are, since I've heard all variety of heights for them.

I play a guy at my local shop who made his black orcs into nobs in mega armour. They looked like bigass nobz. They are heavily armoured and with some guns look perfect for them.

They might have too much armor for ard boyz, and they are definately too big. You could always just strap some armor plates or GS them on and it would look fine.

Not that there's any real reason to field them, but how about Grots from Goblins? Assuming I could find 28mm Pilgrims to plunder blunderbusses from...

EDIT: Sorry, I don't mean to turn this into the "kitbash whfb Orcs into Orks" thread, but I have literally zero knowledge of WHFB (except that they can't spell "Ork", apparently... )

I think Black Orcs may look so much bigger because of how they're posed (arms up in the air and such). While they are a tad bigger, its not very much really.

Consider 50 nobs makeign a grand apearance in my Khorne Ork army thanks to those pics

I've seen those awesome Black Orc conversions when I was browsing, but thanks for sharing them Lunahound.
I love them, but there aren't any comparison pictures I'm afraid.

If they are a bit bigger than a regular boy I think it can be justified by them being tougher and such.

It is hard to tell from the image but the Orcs seem a bit lankier than Orks. Longer torsos and arms.

Hmm, those arnt really bigger then a nob at all. I think I just might convert regular nobs into big armored mega nobs myself. *sigh* add that to the list I guess lol

Black Orcs are more like the size for Nobz in 'Eavy Armour. Black Orcs are quite big. I think they're too big and too armoured to just have a 4+ Save.

Thats just my opinion though

Had some Black Orcs decided to moth ball them as they didnt quite look right as Ard Boyz

Use the new Nobz just downgrade their equiptment.

Personally I wouldn't use the nobz as Ard Boyz, they're far too large! The black orcs make a good base for a hard boy conversion IMO. The model I posted above was a test piece (Which was inspired by a piece of art in the latest codex), which I intend to expand on the conversion by GSing some leather boots on, giving them some kind of gun! and generally 40k-ifying it up! But as I said with a little imagination and a bit of work they make great Ard Boyz

Here is my GW stock Nobz from the box (okay lots of minor conversions but still from the Nob box) with Black Orc heads on most of them. I think they came out well. I have one more Black Orc head going on my Waaagh! Banner pewter model.

Found the other WIP black orc I was converting:






The head wasn't glued on so took the oppertunity to show how it would look with a standard ork boy head.
I also didn't glue the arms on straight off the sprue as i felt the looked a little awkward, so i took the standard ork boy arms and at the flat bit where the arm is glued to the body cut in half:

I then took the segment I cut off, turned it 180 and attached it back on the arm:

with a bit of GS you can cover up this conversion nicely, maybe add some more armour, a strap or some cloth rags? also you can see the beginnings of the leather boots I mentioned in an earlier post, all in all I think black orcs are a good option for the basis of your Ard Boys. You will end up with a few boys holdin their choppas and sluggers over their heads, but i think it looks quite cool, makes me think their givin out a massive WAAAGH! shootin off a few rounds in the air!

I've done the same thing for my Ard Boys. Taking the Black Orcs and adding Ork pieces. I had a little trouble with my Big Shoota, but I think I fixed that issue with some greenstuff... just ahve to wait and see how it turns out when painted and go fromt here I think.
