Army Builder, HeroLab, and CardVault. Those who've used these programs know how much they add to your game. The D6G team gets Colen McAlister of Lone Wolf Development on the line to talk shop about what goes into these products and whats coming in the future.

Later we try out our first ever "Cage Match." Two games enter, one game leaves. The veteran party game Werewolf goes up against the young upstart "Are you a Traitor." Which is the better social game?

All that and our usual 'not too horrible' humor, with features such as:

- When Wives Attack (A very special episode)
- The Hollywood Minute
- Achivements in Gaming
- & More

I've just finished listening to Rapid Fire, I don't know why, but I believe it was the best to date! Exquisite job there D6G, especially Craig!

Haven't had a chance to listen to the show yet chaps, as I'm downloading it as I type this. I'm sure it'll be the usual brand of great reviews and ridiculous banter.

I've got a quick question for you though. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask you, but I was having an attack of dumb-itis whilst looking at your website and couldn't find a "Contact Us" bit....

Anyway, my buddy and I are really into Munchkin at the moment, although the third member of our gaming group is away now for a few months and have noticed that the game doesn't play as well with just two people. We were going to get into Cutthroat Caverns after your recent review, but are stumped, again, by the three player minimum. Can you recommend any good, similar games that would stand up to repeated playing with two players? Also, while we're at it, I am often up late at night due to insomnia and would often love a good game of something, even though I'm the only one who's up. Can you recommend any good 1 player games that aren't on a console or PC?

Thanks, in advance, for any reply from you. Keep up the excellent show. Now, off to listen to the latest offering.....

Cheers!

Three quick tips:

1) Try the "About Us" link on the top of our site, and scroll down.

2) Race for the Galaxy plays great at 2 players, as does "Small World" (both reviewed on the show in different episodes)

3) Single player: Race for the Galaxy's expansion adds a solitaire component. Monsterpocalypse also has a cool solitaire mode in the strategy guide.

Happy Gaming!

I'm really interested in playing in the D6G Blood Bowl league. Are you going to publish the password for the league somewhere?

Just wanted to point out that I am a big fan of Craig's speaking voice! Especially where dramatic interpretations are concerned.

However, Craig is utterly daft where "Up" is concerned. Sword fights aboard Zeppelins! Ed Asner! It's very solid.

However, if there's one movie worth seeing this summer, it's the '70s-sci fi styled "Moon". I don't want to say too much about it. It's good, it's real good.

I agree with you both on the quality of Craig's speaking voice and his inability to recognize a good movie. Up's Metacritic score is 88 (http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/up) which is higher than Star Trek's 83 (http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/startrek2009) and, of course, Hangover's 73 (http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/hangover).

In fact Up's 88 places it (appropriately) as the 88th hightest ranked movie of all time in Metacritic and ties such movies as Toy Story & Lord of the Rings. Since Metacritic is simply an average of all media reviews, I think it's safe to say that Up was a critical success as well as a box office success.

And don't get me started on Craig's dis'n of WALL-E, which has a Meta critic score of 93 placing it as the 15th highest rated movie of all time on Metacritic. Oh, and Craig's fav Wanted? Scored a mighty 64. Terminator Salvation? 54.

No hate, just disapointed in Craig's inability to recognize quality cinema.

Well, I've finished listening to the whole episode and all I can do is to repeat myself! It was exquisite! But the When Wives Attack, when all those the D6g team was together was especially awesome!

Now that all my fanboy-ism is out of the way, may I ask a question? In the Dark Heresy contest, how much in character should it be? 100% grimdark or will humor be a factor?

Creativity is probably the most important thing. Remember that FFG folks will be the final judge, so who can say what will sway them.

I found Craig's "d'ya ever notice" characteristically full of dramatic irony, particularly as it's preoccupied with preemptive disdain for popular summer movies -- only three short hours after he's hopped up and down insisting that Up somehow fails to outshine say, sliced bread.

Oh, hey, I noticed no uncharted seas this week. Any chance that, like Warmachine, it's suffering from "Edition Interregnum," where in the absence of a definitive rule set people aren't as gung-ho about it? Or just time crunch?

BUT I also noticed that Russ played Heroscape! And said it was awesome! So that answers that question I asked over voicemail back around ep30! I've been grabbing some extra boosters and terrain here and there, and I still love the elegance and consistency of the system.

Also! One more game to recommend. I played this with my gaming-and-martinis group. It's called Neuroshima Hex -- a very silly name -- but the way it works is crazy. You build a series of "Mexican Standoffs" in a sort of Fallout-style postapocalyptic battlefield, and then each one erupts in a swirl of carnage. That I managed to teach it amid all the martinis speaks to its accessibility as well.

Loved the cage match format!

An excellent observation.

Uncharted Seas is not dead to us (at least not to me, I LOVE THE SHIPS). Part of it is that we're waiting for the new rules, and part of it is that we're just distracted by other stuff, which will come out in Ep 36.

I'm not back yet - but I wanted to at least drop a note that the Fifth Dentist has indeed still been listening and appreciating. (He's been appreciating Raef more and more - because for someone similarly employed in the financial industry, he's still podcasting and I'm sorta glazed over at this point.) So just a note that I'm alive, and I'll be back here with my wall'o'text - soon.

-ish.

Sorta.

Hopefully.

U would just like to point out the success, once again, of Russ' Jedi Mind Tricks. At no time have I EVER attacked Up. Nor did I say "Wanted is a Superior Film" or any such-like.

I merely mentioned that Russ goes crazy if you mention that ANYONE who DID see it, DIDN'T love it.

And the prosecution rests, as he clearly still can't leave it alone, despite the fact that he had to warp reality to make it seem like I was attacking his beautiful movie.

I didn't match any of the movies I saw up to any of the movies he saw this year, and even last year, I just said what I liked.

But apparently, when one crosses the big giant head, one must be destroyed at all cost, including truth, justice, and humor.

Brings forth all hidden things,
And buries that which once did shine.
The firm resolve falters, the sacred oath is shattered;
And let none say, "It cannot happen here".

I, for one, am shocked.

Craig,

Do you have any pics of your Gutshot buildings yet? I would love to see them!
I have a bunch of Black Scorpion wild west minis (which I love) and they do tend to be more in the realm of 28-32mm where a lot of buildings for the genre tend to be around 25mm or smaller. Not normally a huge deal, but since I do want to be able to have guys on balconies and within interiors, I will likely be making them from scratch.

Your list of buildings that you have built already is impressive to say the least.
I'd really like to see how yours have come out for some inspiration.

Russ, I found a frind who had RFTG and it just didn't float my boat, with it being too 'resource management' for my tastes. Also, Monsterpocalypse didn't quite float my boat when I looked at it online. Any other suggestions, especially for one player?

Thanks for the help...

My suggestions:

- Roll Through the Ages! (especially when nobody else is trying to take your dice away)
- Wings of War! (Burning Drachens edition - your WW 1 biplanes try to shoot down enemy spy balloons while dodging flak and rockets)
- Federation Commander has a cool solitaire mode in "Romulan Attack" where you fight a space monster -- your ship needs to figure out how to beat it, then carry out the plan.
- Space Hulk has a solitaire mode which can be pretty fun.
- Red November and Battlestar Galactica both have a sort of solo mode, not by default but by playing multiple characters. These modes are up, with some advice on implementing them, on the FFG site (linked on Boardgamegeek as well).

Other thing! Squideye and The Bitter Guy podcast is up, very much a cheap Canadian knockoff of D6G. (We kid. We kid because we love.) If you are very bored you probably want to hear us yak on about Tron and the War of 1812. It's at SATBG.libsyn.com with a friendlier URL forthcoming.

Hey guys, Colen from Lone Wolf here. Thanks to the Craig, Russ and Raef for having me on the show!

I just wanted to let you all know that we had some issues with the 4th Edition data files for Hero Lab right after the show released - Wizards released an update to their D&D Compendium, which broke things for us until we fixed them. If you had problems with the 4e Hero Lab files before, try them again - they should be working now.

Thanks!

I'm interested to hear how you all settled on Gutshot for your WW fix. Looking at their site it looks like it is a cut-down RPG in effect. A sort of ultra-small skirmish game. Which suits WW perfectly.

Personally I've long been a fan of LotOW and have a reasonable posse or 3 and some nice WW buildings (card stock for quickness, but "tarted up" with balsa walkways, porches and such. Actually card stock buldings work well for WW as they suit the style quite well. Anyone looking for WW gaming who hasn't got Craig's aptitude for mega-intense terrain-building could do far worse than source card terrain (there are quite a few free pdfs to download online if you Google for them)

But I digress...

Yup, I echo the call for a review of Gutshot. $25 for a new rulebook to use with my existing models sounds like a no-brainer so I may get it anyway, but it's always good to hear a review so as I'll know whether it will fit with my group of gamer buddies and our pre-requisits (mainly we have minimal time to prepare for games, and any preparation time eats into painting time, which for most of us is more fun, so we tend to avoid preparation-heavy games like RPGs in favour of games that rely more on a minimum of army selection and a maximum of play on the table.) Hearing you guys' experiences getting ready for the games and how much fun the rules generate will be welcome in these parts! Can't wait!

A picture from my gallery:

Incidentally, a good link for WW wargaming resources is: http://www.circagames.com/Resources/triggernometry.html

As for this show. Good one! Nice to hear about Lone Wolf. I'm not a massive user of Army Builder, but I do use it as it takes the pain out of army selection for me. Well worth the asking price. I'm always up for interviews with "industry insiders". even if I'm not a huge user of the particular product, I still find it interesting to hear how things tick in the "industry".

Great WWA this week. I'm going to try out those questions on my wife and I and my gamer buddy and his wife one evening. Could be fun!

And Craig, as you can tell from my Avatar, I feel your pain!

Thought the show was good as always but come on Transformers 2 good??? My 5 yr old that is in love with the cartoons and toys and the first movie looked at me about 40 mins in and said "Daddy I am bored can we leave?" If only it had been 10 mins earlier I could have gotten my money and a extra 10 mins back in my life. Curse you Jerry Bruckheimer...

Excellent show. Newlywed game was great banter.
As for town name, I highly recommend the use of "Gulch". Very Evocative.
"Granger Gulch" "Traitor Gulch", "Gulch Gulch", etc.
