not really sure if this is the correct place to post it,so move it as you wish.
Anyways i wanted to know what people thinks of the battalions and what is the best buy:moneywise and contentwise.
I'm asking cause a friend of mine is buying a battalion of WHFB wood elves and he wants me to buy another race so we can fight.
I was thinking Ogres, but don't know if the selection in the box is a good one.
What do you think?

Ok, for WHFB, I'd say....Ogres You can convert a character from the Bulls. Ogres is technically $155, and you can convert some characters from the box. Take out 2 Ogre Bulls and make 'em a Butcher and Bruiser, use another one as an Irongut musician. You'll end up with a bruiser, butcher, 3 Ogre bulls (which is good) 5 Ironguts, 4 Leadbelchers, and 24 Gnoblars. Another good one would be Empire, at $141. Take 2 knights and convert them to a Commander and Battle Standard Bearer. I like the High Elf one as well, same with Skaven and TK. All are roughly balanced against WE (except for maybe Skaven, IDK as I don't play them) though TK will be an uphill battle. OnG isn't too great, neither is Dark Elves. OnG isn't great or balanced against WE and DE, although it has 20 Corsairs, is only $101, and there isn't much for character conversion. Vamps is decent, but you'll need a character (as you will with all of these battalions) as converting one will be hard. Lizards are also good. Convert a Cold One into a Scar-Veteran and you're all set. Chaos Warriors is also good, you're not getting the most, but it includes almost everything you'll need. Plus, you can convert a character from one of the normal models and it is balanced against the WE.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

Well IIRC I 'm pretty sure DE have a fair amount of models.

Dollar for dollar ogres are the best. Unfortunately, you'll find the army lacking as you start to fill it out to a full force. They're fun but they aren't very impressive on the battlefield. If you play them a certain way they can be feasible but they're very one dimensional. You'll hear people talk about dark elves being a top tier list but you won't get any of the top tier units from the battalion boxed set. Lizards are good because just about everything in the army list is feasible. Get a slann, a stegadon or two and a few more temple guard and you'll have a competitive list. Vamp Counts is a decent battalion, too. The only prob with them is that you need at least two battalions plus a couple of vamps to even start to make a decent list. Vamps might be a top tier list but you need a LOT of models (hundreds of them) if you want to maximize their potential.

Skaven for what you can build:
If you go standard
2x30 clanrats
1x25 plague monks
2xrat ogres
1x6-10 giant rat.
That's 3 core units, and 2 special units. Essentially almost 1000 pts.
Add into this
Rat ogre's are easy conversions into weapon teams
Giant rats are great for building out clan rats with unit fillers.
I've assisted people with building the following out of the battalion, IE 1 battalion:
2 engineers.
3x25 clan rats, 2 with ratling guns.
2x18 plague monks
So for $90, you built 2 characters, 3 core units, and 2 special units, that's a pretty good movement towards a tournament calibre army.
Buying another one
You can build
3x 20 slaves with unit fillers
4 total ratling guns,
and at least another unit of clanrats,
easily converting a warlord and bsb giving you
2k
Warlord
Engineer, full kit minus pistol
Engineer, full kit minus pistol
Chieftain BSB
4x clan rats x25, full command, 2-4 weapon teams
3x slaves x21, musician,
2x18 plague monks, addl hws, full command
with bitz options for
censer bearears
gutter runners
globadiers
total cost when it was $90, 192.6 with sales tax, however think that battalion got price bumped.

Lizardmen is a fantastic buy. Content-wise (rules and sculpts) it's killer, and price wise it's pretty good - it's got some half and quarter boxes, but I'd peg it at around 110 - 120. Here's what I did:
Battalion
Box of Skinks
Box of Temple Guard
Slann
Stegadon
3 Terradons
That is a pretty effective force right there. Convert a Scar vet or two from the Saurus Regiment Champion (since you will never actually use him) and/or the Cold Ones and you have a good set of characters.
It clocks in at $241 including shipping(From our good buddies Maelstrom Games). Not bad for a 2250 tournament-capable army.
