Subject: Scratchbuilt knight titan (paladin); 40K scale

Liberated Grot Land Raida

Hi guys,
I finally finished my knight paladin after I've been painting it on and off for the past six months. Most of the construction was done november and december 2008, but I never got round to slapping some paint on it.
So without further ado: a fly-around of the model:
A top view of the model:
And a scale shot:
One more for the road: a model's eye view of the knight.
The highlighting on the green didn't come out quite well. The blue lenses did though, which is a good thing since I'm quite proud of them. . The yellow and black chainsword is a nod to the old epic knights, and I kinda like the effect. Since I intend to build three of them (using the BoLS rules), I'll probably keep that as a recurring theme. Heraldry on all three will also be black and yellow to limit the palette a bit; I feel too many colours tend to detract from big models. It will also denote them belonging to the same household.

Nice job, but in the future maybe bulk up the arms and legs a little, they look aweful thin. And how does it travel it looks fragile.

The legs look quite OK in real life, it's also supposed to be a lot more agile then, say, a warlord. The arms are a bit thin, but that's mainly because they were magnetized for ease of transport. It's definitely something I'll be looking into when I build a second one.
As for travel: both the arms ar magnetized, and the torso and legs are separate as well (connected with a large pin), so travel really shouldn't be aproblem. one of our cats managed to knock it over and the knight survived a 4' fall without any problems, so fragility isn't really an issue .

Agreed for the arms and legs, they seem quite frail in comparison to the bulk of the "torso".
Anyway arms ARE quite frail on a Knight, so you get this right, but the legs are a bit sturdier (see picture of a 40k knight).
But frankly, these are only minor concerns since your model is really good, and I don't think that an Ork or Eldar would find them too frail huh!!! I guess he'd be running from the wrath of the Emperor )
Still, you did a great job on the weapons, the chainsaw is awesome!!
Congratulations!

As said before, legs look OK irl. Main thing I'm considering changing to them is removing the additional leg joint and adding bigger greaves; those would make it look a lot sturdier. in the pic of the classic knight, you'll notice that most of the leg's bulkiness comes from it's armour. Also, something to fortify the hips/groin area will be done on the next one, but I had done that on this model the arms wouldn't have fitted and the torso wouldn't be able to rotate anymore. Right now the legs are mobile and the torso can still swivel, adding some life to the model.
But frankly, these are only minor concerns since your model is really good, and I don't think that an Ork or Eldar would find them too frail huh!!! I guess he'd be running from the wrath of the Emperor )
Thanks! Can't wait to try out a stomp attack .

Thanks, chainsaw was pretty easy actually, just took some patience. The ammo box and the atachment of the gun arm were a bit more of a hassle. Still, that has more to with my lack of patience then anything else...
