Chico,Ca.

greetings!

Im torn between 2 paint schemes and thought id jump on here and ask for some advice. I couldnt decide with just 1 model so i made 2 5 man squads and i got to say i think the black and yellow scheme is working for me. These Gray and Black arnt the best quality i was just trying to get the colors on the model. I started liking the way the B&Y was going i put a little more effort into it.
for some reason my cameras having a hard time with black

First one imo

In a world gone mad, who is left to fight for truth, justice and all that gets you smashed for under a fiver....

First played 40k during 2nd edition, missed out 3rd and 4th, and haven't played 40k since 5th edition - but still read and occasionally paint

i agree, the first one is way better. I only say that because every second peson either paints ultramarines or black space marines

Just my 2 cents

I was using the scythes of the emperor for reference. They just had too much yellow.

I have to disagree ...

With a few highlights , some washes and more i bet that the second one would look a zillion time better than the first one

I like you creativity on making paintshcemes , you really have a talent there !

Also , try another eye colour on the first one , something that isnt so blue-greyish ... it will make the model pop out a lot ... i would try Liche Purple , Scab Red and maybe even Dark Angels Green ...

That is if you go with the first one

use a dark grey, and a duller yellow, and the second could look very good, eg:Charadon Granite and iyandan darksun

Imo, the first one looks too much like the traditional Space Wolves setup, unless the color balance is horribly off and that's a proper grey as opposed to Space Wolves Grey.

If you do go with it, though, I'd suggest trying some test models with black backpacks; the Salamanders color scheme does that, and as I'm in the process of building a large Salamanders force I've noticed that the mostly-mono-color-with-backpack-matching-shoulder-pads pops a bit more than a more solid mono-color-with-contrasting-shoulder-pads. But that may just be me. In any case, give a black backpack model a shot.

Stop trolling us so Lowinor and I can go back to beating each other's faces in. -pretre

The gray just looks boring to me. Well done yellow in any color scheme just makes the whole thing absolutely pop. I have seen paint jobs that are at best mediocre take best painted because of dominate yellow coloring that is applied well.

Remember if you have one thing that catches the eye and makes your figures stand out, the rest of the detail on that model does not have to be awesome, it can just be average and it will still be a well painted model that stands out.

Your going to have to do something really great to make that grey scheme not be boring, no matter the quality.

That's my two cents.

The second one. Yellow is hard to do, but you've done a very good job.

Why not do both? Like, make your tactical squads grey and black, while making the Terminators or assault marines black and yellow. As long as you use black on all your units to keep some army coherancy I don't see why not...

Ah, neither. But I don't really care for fan-created legions so don't take my word for it.

But seriously. Consider playing a pre-existent chapter.

Probably somewhere I shouldn't be

With a little work, I vote the second option,it looks a little more dynamic and dangerous than the first, which are too bland and generic. If you go with the first one, the first thing most people will say is 'hey - you haven't painted your space wolves properly"

Also, I'd like to go on record as saying I prefer the 2nd edition Scythes colour scheme.

I like the second one more. First one is good, too, but something about the yellow and gray combo on that scale bother me.
