Right, this is my army in progress, still have numerous terminators, a tank a tac squad and an assault squad to put together, at the moment im working on my assault squad who I'm converting into vanguard vets using a bit of magic on my part

anywho here goes with the pic, theres only one but shall update as i go



the one on the left is the sergeant, on the right is a marine wielding two power axes, the jump packs will be added on once they are painted, i want to do a good job of these guys

annd i lied, theres one more, its just detail of the beakie, so you can see both axes



i tried with both to get a kind of dynamic pose on them, other than the vanilla just standing on a base

Ok, an update, because im in the modelling mood tonight, i finished gluing the basic squad together, minus shoulder pads, jetpacks and smaller things, but they are essentially there.

Anyway, I have started to develop a backstory for them, and at least have names, and an inkling of character for each anyway, here goes..

the group shot:

They are the First Company Vanguard Vets, named the Ophanim (I know, vanguard and suchlike are in the 4th company, but the fluff is non dex)



The leading one, Rezial



The pronged one, Jikeel (I used an ooolld power fist and a number of marine knives to make the lightning claw, wasn't that hard, and for a reasonably inexperienced modder i think it turned out ok)



The burning one, Orphiel (that power sword was carved out of a chainsword, obviously, i've done it once before with a sergeant but process is being refined)



The cleaving one, Israfil (I really had to delve into the bitz box for these guys, my bitz supply is depressingly limited i have discovered)



The paring one, Natiel (that plasma pistol, or at least, its meant to look like one, was modded from a bolt pistol with junk stuck on, i quite like the way it turned out tbh, and his heroic pose)

so yeah, theres the gang, not finished obviously, i still have much work to do on them but they will get there eventually, would appreciate some c&c

Get some Simple green, soak it in there for a day, then take an old toothbrush and scrub it down. The primer comes right off. Just don't dilute the SimpleGreen.

Also, try coating it from a foot away, doing light sprays and tapping the top instead of holding it down. It shoudl help. Also, go from left to right in strokes, it'll coat the model more evenly.

well, another update, i have started trying to strip paint from the axe guy, so we will see how that turns out, we have valvoline premixed coolant, its green, would that work? anyway, am also stripping paint off a number of metal models, a couple old termies and my other vanguard squad, the metal non jetpack ones now and have started painting the sarge..here he is so far


I'm prepping the shield to have a mural on it, something involving wings, since these guys are supposed to be angelic to an extent...anyway, still very wip


the front, dont know exactly what scheme to go with but im liking the dark grey armour so far



and the other shoulder guard, this will have some freehand on it as well, will take me a while but i'm going to do it

Very dynamic, I really like how they look like they are moving with a purpose and the conversions are really cool, as are the bases!

Those are some really nice looking models...

I've never used Valvoline coolant for stripping a model, but I don't know if it'll work or not.

Here's Simple Green:



You can find it in grocery stores, Home Depot, Lowes, and other places where you could find stuff for heavy cleaning. The smell is a bit meh, but it's the only thing I've ever seen guaranteed not to damage your model while stripping. Like I said, you can soak your models in a vat of it, so long as they are covered in it, and strip them after 12 hours even, heck I've done it before, with minimal paint left on from not hitting the nooks and crannies. Just make sure not to leave them coated in the stuff and give them a thorough washing of water and soap so the paint will stick.

well ta da, another update, its been a few days, but i've painted some more the sergeant, and, however inadvisedly, tried freehand wings on his shoulder pad, i plan on doing a decent freehand crest or something on his shield, just dunno of what yet, anyway, here it is



and from the front, i've finished up the face and the eyes/lenses

sadly no, but the sprues come with 5 complete non assault torso's and backpacks

precisely, i've also got a metal vanguard squad i stripped so i can repaint them, they are sans jumpacks however

looks sweet, and as a mini mini update, i've more or less finished Natiel, the downswept powersword and custom plasma pistol, buuut, dont have a way to put pics on my computer, but soon, i've tried a new tact of painting certain armour segments white and then going over it with badab black, i quite like how it looks.

an idea i had for the squad is that each model will have its own character, but more than that, they will have individual armour, and also, they have been sourced from different areas of the chapter, so Natiel (see above for names) has a gold and blue helmet because he spent alot of time as a devastator, and one of them will have a red helmet because he worked with vehicles for a while and so on, also going to try and do more and more freehand, its damn hard, painting it and finding something to paint too

My techmarine and bits arrive tomorrow

odd question here, what does the shield do?

i think it gives a 4+ invulnerable save..thunder shields give 3+ i think, im not too sure tbh, there isnt any rules in the marine dex giving info, the techmarine will be cool as, are you going to go crazy and just make it monumentally covered in tech?

I was hoping to do a Doc Oc with him. But i dont think I have the skills

you could try using necron parts to spruce him up, make him look all advanced and sleek, like a proper iron warrior should, or you could just layer on plasticard and bitz, just make it look jumbled and added to

haha, yeah, ot time, and nah, they are my own chapter, there's fluff for them floating around somewhere, on my topic list somewhere i think, anyway, i originally had black templars then i made my own

well a rather late update, but here is my most recent work, a heroic part of the squad named Natiel (the paring one), anyway, i decided to go a different style to the sergeant, and tried non metallic painting on the sword, anyway, first wip then the finished product







keep in mind that the non metallic metal i've done on the sword is a first try and copied vaguely from some of my friend's work (he did a comission for me, will upload photos at some point)



so yeah, more or less done, just have to paint the base, gonna go for shattered concrete. I might upload some photos of the shoulder pads on which i tried to do some freehand, you kinda cant see it but on the left pad there is a crest of sorts...anyway, c&c welcome
