Hey all,

This is a forum (hence the name) for everything about our good friends the Salamanders!

Feel free to anything post whatever you want here,
and that includes:

Any tips and tricks for painting Sallies,
Modeling characters/vehicles,
Tactics,
Backgrounds/stories,
Showing off you models,
etc.

Just make sure it's green, black, and in power armor.

I personally will be posting a WIP for my tiny little Salamander army (from SM battleforce).

Salamanders used to be, in the fluff, just black skinned humans with red eyes. The new fluff says that they are actually mutated humans with dark grey skin and red eyes, presumably to avoid the race issue altogether.

This is the method I used to paint my entire salamander army in just a few hours.

I purchased a can of greenskin army painter spray primer. This stuff is awesome. I coated 2 x 5 man terminator squads, 2 x 10 man tac squads, 2 land raiders, a land speeder, a vindicator, a rhino, and a predator all with one can. I was running very low at the end so some of the models get a little fuzzy on the legs, but it doesn't take much paint to cover nicely. There is a ton of pigment in them. I spray the backpack black to save time later.

Next I gave them a good douse of straight green ink. I used the vallejo ink, this was more of a test more than anything but it turned out so nice I used it on all of them.

After the green ink I started in with black on the shoulder pads and the bolters. I don't have to do the backpacks because the were done separately. I also did any of the unhelmeted sergeants faces as well as the face portion of the standard marine helmet in black. (I know its not standard but I think it looks cool)

Following the black I go and pick out all the details like chest eagles in gold and the frame of bolter in silver and the eyes in red, can't forget any random purity seals and such.

Final Badab black wash on the metal bits to dull the shine a bit. Then all I have left to do is attach the backpacks and I consider them table ready.

I haven't found a good way to do power weapons since I still consider myself a novice painter. Any ideas on that part?

Apparently, race has completely disappeared in the 41st Millennium, even the Tallarn Desert raiders are white! Anyways, I know dink about the Salamanders, only that their Master of the Forge is scary to mech-armies

MoTF = fancy Techmarine, not Vulkan. He is the one that's scary to mech armies.

Tactics are kind of easy, you look at Vulkan's rules then add flamers, heavy flamers, meltaguns, multi meltas and thunder hammers to whatever can take it.

Salamanders have black skin + red eyes.
GW is being stupid about makin' eveyone within the colors grey - white.

So does that mean I need to remove the giant afros I modeled on all my helmet-less salamanders?

lol Do you have pics or was that just a joke?

I'll dig up the pics later, but the one of the original space marine painting guides, from around 1990, had sallies with very dark green armour and black skin...

they have never been white, as far as i know, and i've been a fan of sallies for over 20 years...

I say the Red eye thing is stupid and i would go for just dark skinned humans not deamon humans with blood shot eyes from all their ash

Although talking about their skin color is fine, the Manders like photos!

btw, this thread is supposed to be more about painting and modeling more than anything else.
(that's why its in paining and modeling - hint hint)
