Hey, I have been painting for about a month or two and have been collecting a Imperial Guard Army. It comprises of a Leman Russ, Shock Troop Infantry (20 men), 2 Heavy Weapon Teams and hope fully a chimera soon!

Post a comment and see what you think, Oh, please tell me if they are table top standard yet!

They look like tabletop standard, but it looks like they could do with some washes or highlighting to add some depth.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

From what I can tell they look pretty good, but it is hard to tell to much from the pictures.

I'll pass judgement until you get better photos. Here's a few quick tips:

1. Macro setting, zero zoom. It usually is a little flower symbol on most cameras. Most camera's usually have a focal limit of about a foot or two, even with the macro on, so take the pictures a little farther away. Don't use the zoom either, as that also sets the focal point out farther.

2. Lighting. You can take pictures indoors and make them very nice... you don't need to pack them out onto the porch! What you need is a backdrop, such as a piece of plain paper curved up behind the model. Also, grab a desk lamp (preferably two if you have them) and place it so that it is pointing at the model and slightly above the angle your camera is taking the shot from. If you have the second lamp, place it directly above the model facing down.

3. White Balance: if you take the picture indoors with a lamp, you will need to find out how to set your white balance. It may be labeled AWB, or WB, or something similar. It will need to be adjusted for incandescent or tungsten light. If you are using a flourescent bulb, then set it accordingly.

Even if you were a great painter, your pictures would make it look like crap. You can't expect people to "fill in the details" from a blurry photo. If the photo is bad enough that you can't tell that a paint job is good, then people will not say that it is good.

Well that is a fine example of how to take constructive criticism the WRONG WAY.

Fine, I'll tell you what I can see from these photos. The paint looks as thick as mud, and the color scheme is hardly innovative or original. They also look too glossy.

think of it this way: right now, you're minis look like crap. They're blurry and the colors seems way out of focus. We can't tell if that's because the picture is bad or if you're a lousy painter.

Just try taking your pictures from farther away then.

Try taking the pictures from farther away. It IS constructive criticism. It's really hard to look at a photo where the things in focus are in the background instead of the foreground because that is not where our eyes are naturally drawn to.

Furthermore, from what i can tell, they seem to be up to "table top" standards, but that isn't really saying much. What you need to do is head over to the Games Workshop website and download some of the tutorials on painting techniques. The techniques guide will cover stuff like dry-brushing/over-brushing, shading, layering and hard-lining.

If you're just going for "table top" standards, then bravo and move on to the Chimera. But if you want a force that will command respect from people, take better pictures and use those techniques to add depth to your models.

I have lived long enough, for I die unconquered.
