I dont know if there is already a thread for this, but if there is I am sorry and can you send me the link.
My friend and I are making a battle table, and I was wondering if there is anything that I can easily make at home, that would look cool on our table. I was thinking of like an above ground water storage tank, or ammo dump, fuel tanks etc. any ideas are appreciated, thanks.

For that kind of stuff, soda cans, coffee cans, potato chip cans (Pringles!). Sugar and creamer canisters if you work at an office.
Armorcast also makes alot of nifty terrain pieces in that realm.
Going back to the can theme. PVP plumbing pipe from Home Despot work well with this. That's going to be one of my next projects.

The best suggestion I could make is for you to take a trip to your local hardware store,or hardware dept .
There you'll find loads of cylindrical objects, pipe, fittings etc, (and other various shapes) that will sugest diffrent battle field uses .
incedently,Howlingmoons ideas about using soda cans and especialy pringles cans is a good one,in an accient WD an entire battle board for inquisitor was built using just theses items and bits box scavaged stuff.

Search 40k terrain or 40k scenery on Google and look at all the terrain pics that are out there. There's TONS of them. Hell, there's TONS just on Dakka. Go search through the Gallery for terrain.
Look at what other people make, then try to make it yourself. If you need suggestions/tips on materials and such, this is a fine forum to ask.

Whilst you are making the table I would strongly suggest making hills and some blank area terrain templates at the same time.
For the hills get hold of some dense insulation foam (or even polystyrene at a push) and carve to shape.
For the area terrain templates cut some hardboard into irregular shapes.
Paint/treat both of these features at the same time as you paint the board itself.
The terrain templates can then be used in conjunction with small pieces of scatter terrain such as individually based trees/plants,
small rocks, rock spires, tank traps/barbed wire/mines, crates/barrels etc.
VVVVVVVBelow is some of my smaller industrial scatter terrain that could be of use to you?VVVVVVV
Hope this helps.
