A plan for a new army.

The Drade Suicide Legions are once of the Imperium's most hardened Penal forces, trained in rapid drop attacks and fast-moving strikes. They're incredibly fast-moving, rapid insertion forces, with minimal heavy support.

Here's a sample list. I don't want to include any sort of tank or artillery in the list, and I'm generally trying to keep vehicles to a minimum, to represent the 'strike infantry with support' idea of the army. Obviously they're a PENAL legion, so it's mainly penal troops, with other 'maverick' forces such as psykers and veterans.

So, my immediate thought is that I've been trying to cram so many meltas in (to make up for my stance against Heavy Support) that I don't have anything that takes out Heavy Infantry. Swap some meltas for some plasmas/grenae launchers/flamers? Maybe swap the shooty CCS Lascannon for a Heavy Bolter?

What to do what to do?

Actually, i don't see the point of the Regimantal Standard in the shooty CCS. Swap it for an Eviscerator for the last Priest?

I love the idea! Even tough you're limiting yourself alot by taking Penals and little to no vehicles, I just like the fluff too much to tell you it's a bad idea. I think your pure volume of meltas and lascannons should do you well vs. heavy infantry.

List wise, I'd convert the 3rd Chainsaw-less preist into more roughriders, to make their KP slightly harder to get. I like psykers mounted in a chimera, but seeing as you're avoiding them, I'd prefer a full squad, so they could take a few hist and still be maximum effectiveness.

Playing Combat patrol (400pnt mini games) I've found that the more Penals you have, the better they are, because you always have the power you want, where you want it. The abiltiy to roll before deployment is really important for such a vunerable unit.

Well thanks for the support! I know it's gonna be a hard army to play, but that's why I've put it up here, to make it as good as possible within the limitations!

If I lose the Regimental Standard and the last Priest, I have 60 points spare. I could then buy 2 more Psykers and 4 more Rough Riders.

Oh also, the army will be formed out of THESE guys, who have been lounging around in my attic long enough. Shields removed and replaced with knives, shotguns converter to short-pattern lascarbines. Brown leather, orange armour.

I think the standard and preist are better served as the riders and psykers.

Never-mind about it being hard to play, it should be alot of fun, which is what matters!

Those models look awesome! I'd love to see an army comprised of them.

The only ways to get demo charges are Le soldat Rambo, Special weps teams, and Vets. You've already filled your troops, so unless you switch out one of those choices, your only option is Le Soldat. He fits your army's suicide troop mantra for sure, but weather or not to use him is up to you. I'm not a big fan of priests, and seeing as each one is a KP anyway, you could drop a priest and krak grenades to finance that wacky warrior.

Also- Check the points for your first command squad, it seems off.

Maybe I'll skip the demo charges then. I'm kinda thinking of dropping the Rough Riders too, maybe going for Armoured Sentinels instead...

If you are dropping the Rough Riders, I think you might want to consider a second PBS - it really is one of the strongest units in your list, but is unfortunately extremely vulnerable.

I like your current vet squad a lot. I really think it could use a vehicle.

I started a squad of penal legion guys. I took the Catachans and painted the pants and vests orange, their tank tops white, and made it look like they have white tennis shoes. All have rifles and knives. I just started putting numbers on their backs. I am also thinking about bar code tattoos for the shirtless.

I'm going to be painting bits of mine orange, but I think I'll stop at the full 'US Prison Outfit' combo. Taking the picture above as an example, the black parts would be brown, and the red parts would be orange.

I saw in the codex they listed just the custodian, I assume he is like the sargent in a regular squad.

Looks darned good - my sole suggestion would be a Commissar for "fluff" purposes.

You've got plenty of anti-armor elements and the priests should gel nicely with the penal troopers - no weapons that would interfere with the "always counts as moving" rule!

It's awesome fluff, looks like it would be pretty effective on the table-top, and has all kinds of conversion opportunities! Huzzah!

The devil dogs let you wound on 2+ right? Theres your anti-heavy infantry right there.

Yeah, I'm planning to do swappable turrets for them also, so I can use them as Hellhounds or Banewolves if I need to.

Ok, the problem with Commissars is that they can only be attached to Platoon Command Squads or Infantry Squads - neither of which are in my army! I was thinking of making the Company Command Squad officers both commissars (obviously without the rules, but then who would they exucute anyway?) but the only other way to do this would be with a Commissar Lord. Hmm. Maybe I don't need that shooty HQ anyways.

Carapace armour??!! On a 95pt model, heavy bolters can take him down!!!

And if he didn't take the carapace armor, a regular bolter could.

The second list is far superior. Even with the fun of Master Warden Commissar Lord, the 3rd list is just not as good.
