Alright, I am not sure what color I want to do my NIDS that I happen to find in my garage... lol I need help, I am so lost for color... I do one color I like for skin, but then I cannot for the life of me find a armor/bone color I like. Here is what I think I might do, inputs would be greatly appreciated... Thanks!
[Thumb - Nids color.jpg]
I have camo green/catachan green skin, and Dark Angel/snot green/scorpion green armor plates. I am going to do Liche Purple/Warlock Purple/Tentacle Pink Tongue and veins and such...

THe colours you have arnt bad, but the nids have great 'details' that are a bit lost with the darker colour. I like to see paler 'flesh' with dark recessess, and then a contrasting colour on the armour plate.

The best source is nature - trawl through some pics of beetles/bugs etc - focus on the poisonous ones as they have the best colours!

good luck

Do you by chance have the link to that thread?

all my nids are the purple and white for skin then when you have that put the black wash on it and it makes all the details that the nids have pop out

Ok, so I took the advice, looked at some google images of poisonous frogs, beetle, bugs ect... and then I came up with this. I have couple options dont mind the color of the model.. its a beater paint test dummy... Look at the Armor plates and the one should that had camo green and such.. I am going to have the models camo green.

PLEASE I need input...

I kind of like the Black and white... Stands out

[Thumb - NID BLACK AND WHITE2.jpg]

[Thumb - NID GREEN.jpg]
This is one option... I like the bright color, then I added some dots here and there.

[Thumb - NID GREEN2.jpg]

[Thumb - NID GREEN3.jpg]

[Thumb - NID GREEN TO WHITE.jpg]
Then I tried what I call, Reverse highlighting... going from light to dark... and I kinda like that look too....

The last test, reverse highlighting, I really like! maybe get almost a neon green touching the white, and highlight back to the color currently on the end of the armor. (or maybe thats just the picture being a tad dull)

Can you paint one up continuing the armor scheme on the head and tailbone? I think that'd give you a great start, or midpoint. teva.

I'm with Myrkks, that last one is nice and I think the dots from the previous one would look good on it too. I think this is really gonna pop on the larger models. Just be sure to lighten up the component parts (veiny tubes, ammo feeds) on the weapons, that much green and black may muddle the detail.

Looks good though, can't wait to see how they turn out.

For best freshness, please use this sig before 06/14/95

I've got paint in my veins by this point, so it's really too late to stop...

if you mess up i found out that you can use oven cleaner and a toothbrush. the stuff that works the best for my nids when i mess up is a cleaner called "awesome" just put half awesome and half water in a container then let it sit over night and scrub it the next day

Alright, I have his skin finished time to spruce him up with his armor plates. Wish me luck, I am hoping to have that done tonight.

I like it, I would maybe Wash the skin... but I am not sure what color... maybe a Darker Green or a black. but all in all I think it looks awesome and if you keep the "Poisons Frog" Carapace plate style like in the previous post I think you will have an amazing Nids Army. ^__^

Great scheme
My only concern is that it may take too long time to paint if you want a horde army. Oh well, it sure looks nice

I gotta say I like it. It looks very alien chamo. But...it looks really hard to do in a short amount of time (though looking again at the skin that might not be the case). Carapace looks like a nightmare though. Remember that you will be repeating this scheme at least another 48 - 120 times (a bit of guesswork there).

I like to keep mine simple. I hate painting hordes purely because it takes so long. Mine is done with a base of skull white then all over with a thin layer of red gore for skin, chaos black for carapace. Highlight skin with blood red and recesses with scab red. I don't worry about being too careful because it gives them a more blotchy, alien feel. Edges of carapace done with liche purple and the fleshborer is basically just vermin brown (with a bit of drybrushing of blood red). Then just fill in details (teeth, eyes etc...)

I love it, I really have not comment to say you seem to have your road paved and ready to ride down it.

Linked/Lukus - Well the paint scheme actually isnt as time consuming as it may look. The skin was was Catachan green with a camo green highlight, flesh bits was lich purple, highlighted with warlock purple, with a touch of tentacle pink, then the carapace, was pretty easy, layout the design on the back in while, then go 50/50 white/scorpion green, scorpion green, 50/50 scorpion green/snot green, snot green, 50/50 snot green/dark angel green, to full dark angel green. If I do, 10 models at a time get the skin and flesh bits done, the carapace will be easy. Best part is, if I get bored I can paint the Hormagaunts carapace same style with a little different style.

Zein - Yeah, I guess I have choosen my road. But I think I will clean up the carapace and get him based and see what you guys think...

Loken - Thanks, can't wait to see what a swarm looks like.

Now this is an older model when I first got into Warhammer, so I didnt know what the biomorphs and such were, thats why its on his guy (doh!) I have a box of Genestealers, that I am going to put together and paint up. I will open up another post with WIP pics.

Wish me luck, I have about 24hrs to get them filed clean, glued, primed, painted, and based.

Yea I like the direction your going with these. The colors are very bright AND dark at the same time. And it looks crazy in a national geographic kind of way. Keep it up man!

Well Im a cut above the rest I guess. Also that was a smart move. Real bugs (specially the deadly ones) have all kinds of crazyness on them. Makes perfect guids on Nids.
