Starting up a fantasy army. Unlike my Blood Ravens though, these are just to play with, not for show. So I'm speed painting them soley to use in games.
Atm I'm getting them done in about 45 minutes spent per model.

Any thoughts or comments are welcomed as usual!

Awesome! They look similar to mine, but without the chainmail and skyblue.

And unlike mine they look amazing!

I've sold so many armies. :(

45 minutes a model? Bloody impressive all the same. I'd be interested to know the colours you used for their plate armour. Looks sweet.

Cant wait to see more.

The boot's high lights are producing a weird contrast to the gold / blue scheme.

Not really working for me.

What would you suggest?

All I've done is painted them Khamari Brown, washed in Badab Black, then highlighted again in Khamari Brown

The plate is Mordian Blue, then washed in Asuryan Blue, then 1 highlight in enchanted bluue, then a 50/50 highlight of enchanted/ice blue, then a final highlight of ice blue.

I really like the paint job on these models. The scheme isnt over complicated and the blue really pops. If your whole army looks as good as those first 5 you are on to a winner!

I was thinking maybe you could do another wash of Asuryan Blue in order to smooth out the highlights of the enchanted/ice blue so it doesnt look so severe/harsh? Unless that was the look you were going for of course!
Just something to consider.

Well, I was going for a tzeench theme and wanted their armor to look sort of 'magical' and otherworldly.
I think the tron style armor will really make the army stand out on a battlefield, too.
Specially when the entire force is done in it.

Basically the boot's high lights are over powering the blue / gold scheme.
Right now the gold is.... just not enough , unless you want the boot to be magical and otherworldly too :<

Well, I also try to paint all my minis like comic characters, so very vibrant and strong colours.

Not really a big fan of the realistic weathered dull colours style armies either

Once again really nice looking models, and another nice thread for me to follow. The only criticism is that I can still see the mould lines on the horse's legs. Otherwise keep up the awesome work!

Yeah.

I have never done a horse, and I filed the rider, but by the time I noticed the horse I was already drybrushing it. Didn't occur to me to file the horse too at the start, and since it's not a display peice, I cbf'ed filing again at such a later stage.

I won't let it happen on the rest of the unit

Looking nice! I love the extreme highlights on the warriors.

It speaks to the strength of the Chaos line of models how well they look in the various colors of the different Gods.

I like the stark contrast on the armor here. Nothing says Tzeentch like neon colors (done tastefully, of course!). It will also look very good from tabletop distance. I'm also a little bit at oods with the leather color. Khemri Brown has a strong yellow tone, andf it's competing a bit with the metallic gold. I probably would have went with a Scorched Brown base with a Bestial Brown highlight. The reds in those two shades would have created a very strong primary color theme. But, the leather is such little surface area, it's really just a niggling comment

Keep up the good work and post more as you complete the army!

thanks

My goal is to complete the army by the end of this year.
I am hoping wave to chaos has a new plastic chaos model dragon! If not, I guess I will buy the high elf dragon and convert it.

So first you make us feel inferior with your Blood Ravens, now this?! HERESY!

Really though fantastic. If I showed you my 45 minute model it would be half as good with none of that very beautiful highlighting you got on those.

With 3 layers of highlights as well as washes I would hope they score well for painting

I dont think they'd win any best armies like my ravens but I'd expect full scores for painting

Bases will be resin ones once i find a theme I like for a decent price.

Also, 100 posts, go me!

Different depnding on the list and points level.

Knights most commonly get Nurgle, and warriors get slaneesh if anything. My Giant also gets Slaanesh

Sorcerer and the Warshrine are the only ones who actually has 'Tzzentch' in the list

I am modelling some banners on bases painted in the colours and symbols of the various gods, and usually put these on/next to the movement trays of the various units to make it clear of which unit is rocking which symbol for that game.

Only Mark I havent unsed much is Khorne, but were I to field chariots, I would def use Khorne. Only thing stopping me getting a chariot is the rumours there will be a plastic one in the next release wave.

Heh, I'll take the responsibility for the mould lines. I am more of a get 'em together and on the table kind of guy. I rarely file anything (I don't paint much either) They look great though (as I expected) The purist part of me screams at the idea that they are royal blue but have the mark of Slaanesh (or worse, undivided!) And mixed marks in the army, *gasp!*
Anyway, I'll be able to repaint their armor after I take it off of the arrow ridden corpses. So no problem I guess, see you on the 27th.

The colour scheme for my Chaos Hounds.

Seeing as I have 15 to paint, and they are like, 4 point units that soley exist to die, I just wanted a theme that tied them into my army (note the furr is the same color as my warriors wear) And I didn't want to spend much time with them. They got a very quick blending on the horn parts (note it looks better in person that it seems to on camera) and the drybrush of their fur seems to come up much better under the natural eye too.

Overall I am happy with the color scheme, and think the level of painting is more than enough for such a cheap, massed unit, and will look striking on the battlefield.
Thoughts?

And as for basing, I am planing on basing them running a snowly/icey field. I just need to buy some flock next time I am in a model store.

Should I do another lighter drybrush on the skin of astro grey + white?
