Old sprue is useful as you can manufacture just about anything for any universe, army or theme mentionable.

The trick is to find long strieght sections and use these in a manner akin to a steel girder, using to create a skelton frame to which plasticard or thin cereal box card can then be glued to your frame. using this method anything from buildings to tanks can the be created, for additional detail you can add milliput or green stuff to this. it can be a great source of "free" building material as every GW plastic set comes with sprues and a sturdy card box.

As for all the associated clipings and waste, these can be chopped up for rubble and used to craft bases for characters.

Any posted pictures to elaborate this idea are welcome

There was a thread around here a little while ago that had a link to a Necron army made entirely out of sprue. So yeah old sprue is great, especially if you're an Ork player.

Here's a picture from the above link.

That is cool. I never thought of that. I must have thrown out close to a thousand of sprues.

There's a hole in the world it's a big black pit and it's filled with people who are filled with shi

I actually kept the clear green plastic sprue from the flame and ordnance templates that come in the AoBR set, put them through a sausage grinder and when I made a bunch of Necron casualties to litter the battlefield, I put small piles or sprinkles of the plastic around them to give them a neat glow, like they are leaking energy

I love shaving pieces of sprue into spiky bits for orks. Here is a pic of my WIP deff dread with spikes on the bottom of the foot.

Sorry about the image quality, I took this on my phone.

There are girder plasticard too - I jsut picked up some - they have the same shape as metal girders, great for bridges and exposed steel structures.

But now thanks to you - I'll have to make a new drawer.. my girlfriend is gonna kill me if this expands to outside my "office"

I use old sprue for all kinds of things. I've used them for everything from girders to claws to sprue rubble to mechanical arms and legs. The circle parts are great for rivets.

Win. They remind me of some of the generic polygon enemies from the Smash Bros. games. I may need to look into imitating that; it'd be a damned cheap way to make a second army, and I have all these sprues lying around...

Well, I actually had made Chaos Spawn before out of sprues. It was pretty easy. (If anyone is interested, I'll get pictures up.)

I used a lighter, heated parts of them and used my fingers to shape the tentacles and such. Didn't come out too bad for what it was.

I've been using sprue for "glue" (melted with a lighter" for years, for various applications. It's malleable, easy to shape, and worked as fill in limbs for my hundreds of mutants back when I was working on my LatD list.

The core part of the model was sprueing to get a base to sculpt round, then i used milliput fine where the white areas are and milliput terracotta for the brown areas. I would advise against using standard milliput for detail as its not fine enough but better for bulk things like the body of a tank, demon prince or carnifix - and then use other matierials to layer on fine detail....
