I voted yes . Because swap shop is trade first , money transaction second for our members.

Which is fine till none dakka members make account just to spam as advertising for their ebay auction.

Yes, as said the Swap shop should be about swapping (for goods, money or services), not bidding as that's something completely different to me.

Also, the Swap Shop sees a lot of action, I check Dakka daily throughout the week but each day the whole first page of the Swap Shop consists of new posts or posts that have been replied to in the last 24 hours. By splitting it up you can get a bit more 'rest', in that people don't have to go and search page 2 each day just to see of there's a post they missed which might appeal to them.

Personally I never go for Ebay/bidding 'trades', I like to swap minis and bitz straight up. So for me giving Ebay (or similar auction sites) their own specific place on the forum would be a great improvement!

As if on cue, you hear two people singing from the stairwell, and the door is opened and a pair of very smelly, very dirty guardsmen stumble in, completely drunk, and covered in vomit, and immediately collapse unconsious on the porch. You drag them to their beds, realising that they will not be waking up for some time.

If I wanted to buy off ebay, I'd hop on my ebay account.

Put an ebay stickied thread at the top, like the dedicated shops for heavy traders.

While I do understand wanting to advertise for your auction, If your selling something on craigslist, ebay, another forum, or simply at your FLGS, sell it there and leave dakka for dakka

When I'm looking through the swap shop forum, it's because I'm interested in items available for trade, not links to other sites.

That really sums up my thoughts as well. When I search that forum I always try to avoid those threads because, quite simply, that's not what I feel the Swap Shop is for. A separate sub-forum for eBay listings wouldn't bother me, nor would removing them altogether.

there is nothing to report. there is absolutely nothing wrong with someone posting an ad for their ebay auction as long as they label it as such in their subject line (in accordance with the new-ish swap shop rules). the question is if dakka should separate out the ebay auctions from the regular sales and trades. the mods stated in another thread that they worry that putting all the ebay auctions in one forum by themselves (which, let's face it, few people would read) would lead to people putting the ads in other spots as well to get more readers. i can honestly say that i've NEVER read an ad that made me want to buy/bid on the auction whereas i do respond to trades ads more often. also, ebay auctions also get bumped/reposted more often than pretty much anything except for the guy trying to sell the racing nob for $100. i say put them in their own little graveyard (and this is coming from a person who has put up few of his own ebay ads in there!).

Voted no. As long as Ebay is mentioned in the subject it shouldn't be an issue.

I think so since it would be faster to find the true swaps.

Agree. I much prefer Ebay with "buy it now" options when I'm trying to find stuff.

What about Option 3: No eBay auctions on Dakka?

I say leave 'em in. There is no need really for more Swap Shop threads. As long as it says, "EBAY" in the title, I think that's just fine. It isn't all THAT annoying, and with that proviso, you can skip it if you don't plan on buying on eBay.

Also, just because there is a rule against it doesn't mean it will stop. Instead, it will probably amount to more work for the Mods who will have to move posts whenever an eBay auction appears.

I don't mind seeing ebay posts in the swap shop section. There are usually not that many, and I generally skip over them as I look at stuff on ebay daily anyway.

I usually try to list things I have to trade or sell here first before dealing with ebay, as I think the dakka community is less apt to try and rip me off.

Therefore I voted, no.

hmm... i didn't think that not allowing them was even an option as it seems a little to harsh IMHO. i think they have there place but it's better to segregate them from the regular sales/trades.

I don't think not allowing ebay's is harsh as its A dakka swap shop/ sales, not an ebay add site.

Two ways is better: Swaps vs Sales. Auctions can stay on eBay.

As is often the case, there are good reasons both for and against. As one person said, it might be easier to find what you're seeking if the two things are separated, on the other hand, some people like only having to look in one place, especially if they are not particular about whether they are paying for or swapping for an item, they just want to find that item and looking for it in one forum area saves them time.

As for the comments referring to eBay posts as "spam", may I remind those people that one person's spam is another person's helpful post. A lot of people here and on other forums with similar topic areas find items they want through those posts and would disagree with you.

As long as it's identified at the beginning that it's an eBay listing, I can click on the post if I want to or just ignore it. No big deal.

oooh, you could leave the swap shop and add the "chop shop" for ebay + money only transactions.

I still like 3 ways... for one thing, I really don't have your monomaniacal urge to repeatedly say get rid of Ebay listings totally.. Other then the fact that it's short term, if expired auctions could -go away- from the listings I'd have a lot less problem with the way we've got things now.. perhaps we just need something as simple as a way to let folks -delete- listings when they're obsolete

For the other, I'm one of those DIY/Crafty weirdos who uses Etsy (http://www.etsy.com) I have a -lot- of stuff up there, it's stuff I've done over time, and they're good quality pieces, that I did for my enjoyment, but don't have much use for, it's not like I'm army building to sell or trying to get rid of an army I don't want (well I am, but just one and I keep having second thoughts about it) stuff is up there a -long- time (3 months at a pop) and I'm not expecting it to move instantly, so at the moment, the swap shop is not doing me much good, because what I put up there gets pushed off the page...

eBay auctions listed in the Swap Shop forum are clearly labeled that way and the number of views they get indicate there is a large amount of interest in them from many forum members. That speaks for itself better than the few tirades against them.

I would like to bring a point up incase noone have bumped into this situation yet .

A few people with multiple swap shop threads ( different armies ) were supposed to combine them into
1 wall of text / pic thread.

If space on the 1st page of swap shop is scarce to the point that it has to be done that way ,
then let me ask an obvious question....

Why on earth are we letting NONE DAKKA member EBAY Seller with 1 dakka post ( their ebay thread on dakka )
take up this valuable space?

Swapper / sellers should have rights . Its Dakka member's rights, NOT random (none dakkite ) ebay seller's rights to use .
