I had a game last night at the Pit with my Terminators, vs. a Blood Angels army.

I have pictures!

Here's my army:

http://s177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/Blaisdell309d/Masters%20of%20Tomorrow/

My army list, basic same as all the other times I've used it. The Terminators are 10 man god squads with heavy wargear loadouts, like 400+ points each and icon equipped.

Abaddon
Typhus
Nurglinators
Slaaneshinators
Tzeentchinators
5 CSM w/Rhino
5 CSM w/Rhino

Enemy list:

Blood Angels

Dante
Corbulo
5 Assault Marines w/Rhino + fist
5 Assault Marines w/Rhino + fist
10 Tac Marines w/Rhino + plasma gun + lascannon + fist
9 Death Company w/Rhino
10 Assault Vets w/1 Fist, jump packs
Land Raider Crusader
5 Terminators, 3 with LC, 2 with TH/SS
2 Assault Bikes w/multi melter
2 Assault Bikes w/multi melter

The mission: Kill Points

Deployment: Spearhead

We deploy: (pics at http://s177.photobucket.com/albums/w215/Blaisdell309d/MoT%20Batrep/) upper left is deployment

I go first:

Top 1:

I move east. Slaaneshinators shoot their 2 combi bolters at his assault bikes, do 1 wound. Tzeentchinators take a weapon and stun a rhino. Nurglinators do nothing. All go east.

Bottom 1:

He moves west, firing on Slaaneshinators with his long range weaponry and moving around. Because of the one stunned rhino (with the Death Co.), and one other rhino failing to overdrive his wall isn't entirely perfect.

Top of turn 2: Next pic to the right.

Top 2:

I move the Slaaneshinators into range on the north edge, and put Typhon/Abaddon with the Nurglinators, who move up front and center going around the south side. Shooting destroys a Rhino, which had some guys in it.

Bottom 2:

He moves his Land Raider over, hops out the Terminators, and Dante & co. jump up behind the big rock wall. He also drives around his Assault Bikers on the north side. He fires on the Slaaneshinators and kills another 2. He fails the assault roll with Dante (needed a 5, got a 3). He fails the assault with the Terminators as well (needed a 3, got a 2...very close, about 2.1 out, we diced it off.) The Assault Bikers went in anyway, got crushed by Slaaneshinators.

Turn 3: Next pic to the right. Note presence of other biker squad around on my north flank.

Top 3:

Slaaneshinators forge through the terrain, and flame the hell out of Dante and his boys, killing all but Dante, 2 guys and the fist guy. Tzeentchinators shoot down the assault bikes. Nurglinators destroy a rhino. I get my tac squads on, drive em in on the SE. Slaaneshinators assault Dante & co (bottom left pic), killing all but Dante and a fist guy, and doing 2 wounds to dante.

Bottom 3:

Death Co. countercharges, killing all but one Slaaneshinator (bottom middle picture). Dante dies in the process, however, as do a few Death Co. His backfield surrounds my rhinos, not the best idea to send them in.

Top 4: (top right picture)

Abaddon leads the Nurglinators up to save the last Slaaneshinators. He wipes out 6 of the Death Co before they can swing, and the Slaaneshinator finishes off the last. Tzeentchinators shoot at a rhino, don't do anything. Rhino marines shoot at an approaching 5 man squad.

Bottom 4:

His backfield charges and destroys the 2 rhinos. Those were KP thrown away, sigh. The Assault Terminators charge the Nurglinators, and Abaddon + Typhon kill them before the Tzeentchinators even get to swing. My opponent concedes (bottom right picture.)

KP is a very kind mission for this army, I've realized. Still nice to be able to fight back against Dante/Corbulo Blood Angels, those guys charge really hard.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

I noticed that you switched this around a bit from your last tournament list (that had zerkers in the rhino's).

I just can't stop feeling like you are completely losing out on all effectiveness with the csm squads in the rhino's. Even just giving the rhino's each a havoc rack and the guys inside a flamer, for the cost of about a terminator seems like it would be nice. Or doing the combi-melta, and then a melta in the squads.

Is the goal to make them look as usless as possible so they don't get shot at? I guess I could see trying to go for a bit of the psychological effect.

I do think the list looks like a lot of fun to play and it's definitely not your typical list of the month sort of thing.

Did you ever play test this with using lesser daemons instead of the rhino's and marines? I'm wondering if summoning in later off the huge squads of termies would be better or if it's better to have the rhino's for the additional speed and contesting and mobil terrain aspects.

Yeah, I prefer that the minimum scorers don't do anything, so I want to spend as few points as possible on them. If I gave them a flamer I'd be tempted that they get close to shoot it. If I gave the rhino a havoc I'd be tempted to get out in the open and fire it, instead of driving as fast as possible to cover while smoking.

I don't think I can trick anyone by making them look useless, folks who can and need to will certainly shoot at them. It's just that they spend most of most games sitting in reserve and/or on objectives that are far from the action. I figure they can do that just as well at min points.

Lesser Daemons would be more points spent on things that aren't Terminators (they can't take up the min core slots). The theory of this list is that Terminators are all sufficient! In a more competative vein, they'd be KP that are much easier to get than the Terminator squad's 3.

I must've missed that they can't take up the minimum core slots. Or I'm thinking about the adepticon team rules.

Your list and reports are great, I have never seen an army like yours and different = good. I have 17 Terminators in my list and I thought I was going overboard! Good stuff, I would like to see more of your battles with this list.

So your CSM are actually naked? In the 30 terminator lists I've seen the CSM generally have a melta, for opportunistic popping of cheeky vehicles. Personally I'd do the same, 20 points may pull a handful of combi-weapons off the terminators but the possible payoff is pretty enormous.

Thanks for the report, enjoying the mayhem you're up to with this army. Are the pics truly as tiny as they look on my screen? I guess "mobile photobucket" is cause you're using your phone? Can't figure out how to enlarge ... Groovy all the same!

@Warmaster: Maybe, can lesser Daemons be troop slots in Adepticon? I don't recall. Could be pretty cool alongside a Daemon army in that case.

@Afrikan Blonde: Alright.

@Bladewalker: Thanks man. I'm a big fan of Chaos Terminators, but I can picture several ignominious defeats lying in this army's future (lash + Oblit, weaken resolve), so I don't fool myself that this is some sort of mighty tournament stud list. For more reading about the Terminator's exploits, I took it to Big Waaagh, batreps should be somewhere down the page.

@Boss_Salavage: You've probably got a point, but I can't alter the army. No hobby-fu. The guy who made this army for me takes a while to finish anything, and is presently starting work on his own army so I don't dare return them for repair/alteration, lest they disappear for months.

From another perspective Meltas on the troops and combi meltas on the rhinos would probably be an improvement, but so would 2 lashes and some berserkers. I don't sweat the small stuff.

He was taking the pics with a big modern camera, I'm surprised there's no way to blow em up. I don't know of one either though. It's too bad, they are really well painted models.
