I was researching this topic for a thread on TMP about 28mm dropship models.
It turns out there are various rather nice ship models available as plans to print and construct from card.
If you wanted to beef them up, it should be possible to glue the card onto polystyrene sheet (plasticard) and add more details either from bitz or by printing your own add-ons.
I haven't tried any of these yet. Have any Dakka users got experience? I remember a thread recently by someone who made a Leman Russ or something.

I tend to look at these templates for reference, and in this case I might suggest using polystyrene card .020 or .030 and laminating (gluing several layers together, not encasing them in clear thermoplastic!) them for the structural vanes rather than making boxes. I'll have to get a bit more card before i test these out.
Edit: Eye kan speel guud.

Drop Pod... print 3 copies of this on cardstock and you'll see how it goes together. Use a photo-editor to change the colors.

I wish I could remember. I think I linked to it from Minaturewargaming.com or something like that... If I could find it again I would love to credit the author.

There is a yahoo group you can google or search through yahoo groups called BWC-Archive who have tons of schema and the like. You have to join the group and that can take a lil while, but worth it.

BWC-Archive and BWC-Archive2 are two biggies on Yahoo.
There are also other sites that will have the old GW France 3 fin dread drop pod templates, and I think I have most of the 40k templates I'm interested in (I've never liked orks, though - but I still have a set of templates for the original battlewagon).
@Killkrazy: The chickenhawk is pretty neat. Needs some stiff card (or plasticard) to get it to work right (and a good glue). I've got one half-done for a game coming up (it's a set piece for an infinity demo - but it will also serve as a "Get to the choppa!" mission objective).

I started working on the Chickenhawk as well. I'm using cardstock, but its not particularly rigid.
If anyone is interested to see the progress, let me know.

I would love to see it.
I started the Chickenhawk. I printed the designs onto paper then glued the paper to 240gsm card. It was not a success as the paper wasn't 100% stuck down, there were bubbles, and the card curled up something terrible.
If I can get old of white card I will try printing on that.
I reckon if the card is too thick, it won't run through the printer. If it's too thin to be stiff enough for a tabletop model, it could be reinforced with plastic sheet and internal struts.

When you call an intimate moment with your partner "the Assault Phase"
Is that followed by a pile-in move?
That brings a whole new meaning to the term "Hit and Run"
Can that be following a deep strike, or do you have to wait until the next round? |
