Hi all! I've been wanting to do a Plog for an army for over a year now but I've been busy with school and unable to narrow down what army I wanted to collect next. After much thought and research I've decided to collect a Chaos Daemons army. This is going to be my Plog for the army--I hope it's as fun for you as it will be for me

I like that Daemons are a rare army in my area and are quite competitive while at the same time you can build shooty, assaulty or mixed armies all with the same codex. For me, this is balanced by the fact that I hate having an army that looks like a rainbow splattered across the table. I also wanted this army to be fully converted and all using the new plastic Bloodletter as a base if possible. I love the look of the new Bloodletters and an all (or mostly all) plastic army was a plus. With those main goals in mind, I cast about on the internet for inspiration.

After scoping out quite a few other Plogs and WIP posts (Catpeeler's Plog being the most inspiration: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/248261.page), I was inspired by the concept of Giger-esque Cyber Daemons. The idea of an army comprised of the different blind Daemons working in the Soul Forges on a Daemon World sounded just plain awesome to me. This would allow me to convert each model and ensure that nobody else had an army that looked too much like mine. Additionally, I could paint them all in similar colors so the army really comes together.

So without further ado, here are the humble beginings of my Cyber Daemons.

Sorry for the shoddy picture quality--I have an old camera and I'm slowly figuring out how to coax out the best photos.

My plan is to paint the bases for a unit and then finish the models and then go on to another unit. Once all of the guys are put together and the bases done I'll go back to the begining and start painting everything. I'm also thinking that I'll paint one model from each unit type in the next week or two and get them posted up too.

Thanks again for looking/posting!

Wow mate, those are awesome . I'll be watching this plog with great interest to see how it develops. Any thoughts on colour schemes yet?

Edit: For skin tone I think I'm going for a medium to light blue color. I'm not a very skilled painter unfortunately so we'll see what happens.

They Seeker's legs are from the different Mechspider metals kits that you can find at http://www.comfychairgames.com.

I just realized how bad the base casts were that I did last weekend, so I poured another mold up and will be casting my 40mm bases today for my Seekers and Fiends.

Pics to come!

After 6 hours of mold filling and de-spruing, a warm dish-soap bath with a toothbrush, and some tender love here are my 80 (eighty) 40mm bases drying out. I'm playing with paint schemes for the skin tone currently. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Here are the WIP shots of my Plaguebearer. This is pre-green stuff--I wanted to get some feedback on what looks good and what doesn't

Nice stuff so far. Demons in 40k really lend themselves to this sort of thing. I have a feeling that these sorts of conversions are going to keep gaining popularity.

Love your stuff, and your ideas for the army.

I think my favorite conversions here so far are the seekers and the flamers. I like them a bit better than the plaguebearers because the daemon/cyborg blends seem a bit more organic, a bit more 'natural' (in a twisted, decidedly unnatural way, of course).
And on the plaguebearer, I prefer the chainsword arm to the (ork)blade arm). The suggestion of a 'hand' join on the latter seems a bit off.
To me, at least. You should go with what you feel on something like this.

And either way, it's a very creative army. I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Yeah, his right arm seemed a bit off to me but I couldn't put my finger on it. I'm not really sure what to do about it.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I decided to rework both arms and make them look more cybernetic. Both looked just tacked on to me. I like this look a *lot* better--This is what I was shooting for from the begining. Again, pardon for the picture quality as I'm using an ooooold digital camera.

What do you all think?

So, here's my thoughts for Bloodcrushers... Wait for it...

Plastic Balrog bodies with IG Sentinal-style legs. No tail or wings. One arm will carry a weapon and the other will have a power scourge a la this photo from Lemmingspawn's Iron Warriors:

What do you guys think? Will they be too big or not?

This. Rocks.

I tip my hat. I reserve judgement on the Bloodthirster however, as I think the legs may be 'stumpy'. Maybe Defiler legs?

I think that Defiler legs plus a Balrog body is more like a Bloodthirster than a Bloodcrusher I'm going to draw some mockups this week if I get a chance and see what it looks like.

Awesome stuff. I support the mechanical balrog idea.

As Bloodcrushers though? I love the idea, and they ARE on a 60mm base, but... It just seems so freakin' huge for T5 and 2 wounds.

I have basically no other ideas to work with though. Hmmm. I think I'm going to buy the plastic Balrog tomorrow and do a mockup and see how large it really is. In the meantime, any suggestions?

My local shop didn't have any of the plastic Balrogs in stock, so I decided to start working on my Fiend prototype while the Balrog is on its way here. So, here are the mockup shots of my proposed Fiends. The concept is infantry have two legs, all of the beasts/cavalry have 4, and all of the jump pack troops have some form of a Chaosified jet pack (Yes, my Bloodthirster will indeed have a gigantic jet pack--One way or another!). It's important to me that there are running themes through the army that make it easy to determine what is what. These shots are obviously pre-green stuff and pre-conversion. I'm thinking of having spikes sprouting out of the "hull" of the Fiend and potentially working in some chains somehow.

My thoughts in no particular order:

1. I don't like the size of the hull. It looks a little big to me. It certainly looks more than T4 W2. Well, a little. Maybe. I guess in a world of Hormagaunts as big as Marines with only T3 W1 these aren't that bad.
2. I like using these claws to represent Rending. I think it makes it clear which models have Rending and which don't.
3. I like the "four legs=beasts/cavalry models" concept.
4. I don't like the shiny spot in the front of the hull. I think it looks like an eye and I don't like that at all. I can fix that with my Dremel.

And my suggestions in no particular order:

1. Mount the body a little bit more forward instead of centered on top of the hull.
2. Spikes sprouting from the hull.
3. Add some sort of tail with a hook/barb on it.
4. Add some sort of lash with a hook/barb on it in the front of the model. Potentially might look phallic, so this is a risky idea.
5. The head needs mounted so it's looking down a bit. As it stands it looks like it's looking at the top of a dreadnaught, height-wise.

Please post your thoughts/suggestions!

Dont think it needs spikes, I also think the hulls a bit big.

I lowered the front end of the hull and raised up the back end a bit and repositioned the legs a bit. I think it looks much better. It's still a little big, I think, but compared to the stock GW Fiends I think it's reasonable.

Thoughts?

Well, my other option is to use my Seeker models as Fiends and then come up with a new plan for the Seekers. Hmmmm.

Love all the models so far. Where do you get the coiled wire from btw?

Made in us
Horrific Horror

It's guitar string. I'm looking for a replacement though, because it's actually *really* hard to bend without knocking the coils out of alignment.

I decided to go with the second Fiend. It matches up size-wise with the stock GW Fiend and when you set it next to the other models I've done it doesn't look abnormally large or disproportioned.

I think I'm going to get 6 Fiends all put together and then go through and green stuff them and then on to the next unit.

Still accepting ideas for Bloodcrushers! The current plan is the plastic Balrog uppper body and sentinel legs.
