I just got the new Space Wolf Codex and have given it a quick look, but so far it looks as if it might be the best way to represent a Pre-Heresy force?

Powerful, Highly Customizable HQ Characters
Customizable Characters (Wolf Guard) that can be placed in other squads
Highly Customizable Terminators (who can take power weapons!)
Larger Squad sizes (Bloodclaws)
Very capable/flexible "Tactical Marines" in Grey Hunters

So far, so good...

You might want to ignore the wolf riding stuff but then again, maybe not! After all, pre-Heresy stuff was pretty much out there too at times.

What does anyone else think?

Is this now the best codex to use to represent a pre-Heresy Marine force?

I would have to agree with you on this Alph.

I've always thought of Space Wolves as the purest representation of the spirit of the original 20 legions still loyal.

They are completely untouched by the dictates of the Codex Astartes, and tend to organise themselves however they like. Perfectly fitting a pre-heresy Legion in my opinion.

Currently I'm planning on creating a pre-Heresy legion (not decided which one yet, perhaps Emperor's Children) but I will most likely use the SW codex to organise them.

I only just picked up the SW codex yesterday and haven't read through it completely yet but I do agree.
Just from what I've read it would work great.

I wonder how the new BA codex (whenever that's supposed to come out) would compliment/supplant the SW for pre-heresy legions?

Never thought of it like that, but after thinkin back on all the HH novels Ive read, you're right (barring the wolf-riding stuff).

That being said, Im probably going to make my Space Wolves pre-heresy anyways since grey power armour > blue-grey power armour

I asked this same question over on the B&C in the "Horus Heresy" section and had some people jump ugly on me, basically accusing me of the "Bright and Shiny" new syndrome and/or Power Gaming with the Most Bestest Hardest Codex.

Moral of the story?

There's no place like Dakka...
